everybody's favorite player to bang on...

Igor Olshansky- 1/2 sack
Luis Castillo- 0 sacks
Ty Warren- 1 sack
Brett Keisel- 0 sacks
Aaron Smith 1.5 sacks
Hloti Ngata- 0 sacks
Kenyon Coleman- 0 sacks
Orpheus Roye- 0 sacks
Robaire Smith- 0 sacks
Chris Canty- 1 sack

these are teams that play the 3-4 all or most of the time, and sack numbers by their starting DE's

and finally, for the stats nobody will believe:

Marcus Spears has more sacks and tackles for loss after 5 games than Julius Peppers does

People who don't understand the 3-4 rarely grasp that the D-line doesn't compile stats.

Spears has played very well this year.

"Very well"? No.

He's been solid, which is better then I expected, but he sure as heck hasn't played "Very well", IMO.

I'll be wearing # 96 today and hopefully I won't have to duct tape the name "Brittnie" on my jersey...:laugh2:

Don't waste your time or mine. I don't play games with semantics. You interpret it how you wish. I will interpret it how I wish.

Deal?

3-4 DE's don't garner gaudy sack #'s. The OLB's do.

And we are snuffing the run all in all and our OLB's are getting sacks. We are creating enough pressure to force lead league in interceptions.

Spears, Canty, Hatcher Have been very good.

Spears was awful last year. It isn't about just sacks, he flatly sucked all the way around.

Spears has been much better this year in that he gets a push whether pass or run on occasion which is what you expect from a starting 3-4 DE regardless of draft slot.

As a whole I can't defend him for his career to this point but I have noticed improvement which is all you can ask.

Let the one upping begin.

Well, Hos, I guess we need to go back to School yard now :D Its true because I said so, facts be damned ;)

On serious note, I am as much of Spears basher or doubter as there is, but even I am surprised at Spears play, since I have noticed he has flashed few times.

Better to look at yearly averages then just THIS year so far. THAT is what we were measuring Spears against. And he still comes up short. He has been better this year in being totally solid against the run an at least some pressure on the QB. But for all his talk there has not been much show.
