Hopefully Marinelli will consider his work in Dallas as unfinished business and he will turn away any offers from others that may come, including Lovie.

Yes I think just 1 sack late in the game. But Romo took 3 other hits maybe? But was pretty clean all day.
I think one hit should have been flagged. If one of the other top QB's from a NFL darling team, it would have been called.

That first push down wasnt brutal, but you know if that was Peyton there would have been yellow all over the field

(Im sure i will be corrected by the realists shortly)

The question isn't whether we want to keep Rod...the question is whether he is willing to stay...many believe he wants to go to Tb to help Lovie Smith...which is understandable

LOL why is it understandable? This is nothing more than a rumor thats been circulated around here.

In today's league you have to play a ton of nickel and dime packages because teams are so oriented to throw the ball and they tip you off with personnel packages.

I think where Marinelli/Kiffin (he's still a coach with the team) and the others have really helped is that they done a fine job with developing the talent.

We were dreadful at safety last season. Church was overrated and has his shortcomings. Wilcox couldn't stay healthy and was learning the position. Heath was awful (and still is). What I've noticed in the All-22 over the past 5 weeks is that Wilcox is becoming quite good. I would still like to see him incorporate better tackling techniques, but the angles he takes are far better and he's got some real cover skills and tracks down the ballcarrier extremely well. I would like to see a more explosive talent at SS over Church, but he's turned into a steady performer than tackles very well.

Our LB corp is so much better than it was last season. Carter is far better than he was last season and so is Durant (unfortunately on I-R). Meanwhile, they brought in McClain and Hitchens, a 4th round pick. If we could keep the LB's healthy and wanted to return all of them for next season, I think we would have the best LB corp in the game with Lee, McClain, Carter, Hitchens and Durant.

The DT play has been very good with Crawford, McClain and now Melton and even Mincey are stepping up.

The only real issues on defense I see is at CB and DE. Scandrick is playing his best ball in this scheme, but Carr and Claiborne are not designed for this scheme. And we are getting some decent play out of Moore and now Patmon is stepping up. The DE issues are really just a lack of talent due to injuries and Lawrence is well behind the 8-ball due to his injury.

Here's the deal....there's no reason why the defense cannot improve significantly and we have the flexibility to do it. There is no 'must have' draft picks that or FA pickups that will make or break the following season. And there's no reason for me to not believe that the defensive coaching staff can't improve the players we already have and bring in any newcomers in FA and the draft and turn them into more productive players that what we have.

The quality of coaching on defense, the O-Line and at WR has allowed for the Cowboys to draft the best player available and not have to be a major player in Free Agency.

YR

I'm with you. I like Wilcox and think he will be a better version of Church. And I agree we need to improve CB and DE. I'd also say we need to get a stud ball hawking safety.

Marinelli doesn't deserve any credit... only barbs and contempt– according to some on here. :)

BTW, the "golden boy" DC for NO, blew another game yesterday... just say'in.

Norm Hitzges made an interesting comment regarding our defense this morning. We all know we were without Big Ro in the middle of our LBers vs the Jags. Norm mentioned we ran a 4-2-5 for many portions of the game. Yeah, 2 LBers.

This means we didn't figure we needed to fill a LB spot, just to fill a spot. We put the BEST PLAYERS on the field at that time. Status quo out the window baby! This just goes to show that Rod Marinelli is crucial to future success. Extend the man.

Regarding the O Line, the Jags were 3rd in the league in sacks up front. Two of them dudes were from that vaunted Seahawks D line last year. I believe we allowed merely one sack all day.

Good post. That's what kills me about "we beat a bad team." Yeah their record is bad but their defense is not bottom of the barrel. On the contrary, their defense was being propped up as one of the best.

It's the same old story every time we do good against some of the best (i.e., the Rams defense, the Seahawks run defense, the Skins run defense, the Jags sack machine, etc., etc.), suddenly everyone forgets that story line. It was their offense that was bad.

Our middle of the road defense did what they were suppose to do against their bad offense. Our outstanding offense showed out against their stout defense. Period. We're good too.

Isn't Rod under contract next year with us? Correct me if I am wrong please but short of someone giving him a HC job, or Jerry agreeing to trade Marinelli, he should be ours again (if he is under contract with us through next year)?
Not sure what his contract is, but JJ has already denied access by other teams to coaches under contract in the past so it would not surprise me that he does the same thing here.

The way things are going for Lovie in Tampa means he may not be there long. Why would anyone give up a great job in Dallas and jump on a sinking ship? Lovie might be lucky to get another year . . . . .

There's no way lovie gets fired after this year...no chance at all

Have you seen that team play?

I agree he doesnt get fured after 1 year, but why go join a sinking ship even if he stays another year or two? The future in Dallas is much brighter.

Because that has nothing to do with anything...it's all about loyalty which obviously is important to rod...if anything, it's detrimental to our chances to retaining him bc the buccs are in desperate need for help

Playing 2 LBs made sense because Wilber is really not that good. He is a liability in coverage and just does not get any pressure when he blitzes, unlike Carter, Ro and Durant.

How do we know he hasnt established good relationships here in Dallas and wouldnt be loyal here? He's been a HC in this league and knows the game. He knows how fortunate he is to be in a good situation here and knows that leaving to go somewhere else, even with a good friend, is a gamble.

Im not buying he'll bail on Dallas to go to Tampa just because Lovie is there.

Have any of you commented on Rod's loyalty to his players or did I miss that post?

He** NO..it is not understandable.....He is the best DC this team has had in years.....the players love him and he was a big factor in getting Henry Melton to sign in Dallas....this is a promising....up an coming defense that is getting better each game......Jerry and Stephen need to step up and show Marineli what loyalty really is...Cowboys style....even if that means keeping Monti Kiffen around longer....finally got a DC that make a difference....do what it takes to keep the man.

How often does it happen? How do you think we got rod in the first place? Bc of kiffin

No they got Rob because Chicago fired Lovie Smith and the whole coaching staff was about to change.....All coaches understand what happens when a new HC arrives...they want their guys in the slots..not the old staff.....he would of been fired or moved on either way

The Saints defense looks like ours under Rob. Unprepared, disorganized.
