Hey everyone...

I don't think this has been posted on this forum yet...

During his time on talkin cowboys today, Jerry mentioned that there was a guy that they were looking at today, that if he came in, could play at a comprable level, and is a comprable player to one we already have on our roster.

He also said that the current player on our roster could cost us up to 20 million over the next 5 years, whereas the rookie could come in for less money, and still comprable talent and play.

Any speculations on who this current player on our roster could be, that would cost up to $20 mil over 5 years? or speculations on who the player they looked at today could have been?

I havent listened to that yet, but are you sure he said rookie?

It sounds like he is talking about julius jones or terrance newman, those are the guys who are coming up on paydays, but who would be there today that could give them anything close to what they give?

I am confused.

Terence Newman would get more than $20 over the next five years. He'll get Nate Clements type money from Jerry.

He did say it was a rookie. it's somewhere around like 40-45 min into the broadcast where he gets to that.

It def cannot be t-new, b/c he will cost a lot more than $20 mil, and even Jerry isn't dumb enough to replace newman. Jones could be possible i guess, maybe Flozell?

It was very interesting and i gave it some thought. Who knows if we can ever guess the college player, but we can sure speculate about the Boys player. Crayton sure could fit that 20 mill over 5. I'd like to think it's Flo/Staley but Flo, if he plays 5 more years would get more than that unless Jerry was refering to the signing bonus? Ellis/Spencer maybe? The key is he said comparable skills. TO/Bowe? Na, TO has more skills. Glenn/Ginn? Not yet, maybe never. Lots of guys could match up to James right now. Some of those OLB in a 4-3, like Posluszny, Timmons, Beason, and Black might fit Wade's shceme? Jerry also said Wade's not concerned about an OLB that can cover, but one that can rush. That has Spencer written all over it IMHO.

i caught that too,

only players i know they had in this week was that ot og from georgia;
staley ot, wolfe rb, and a te from same school;
they signed brock berlin today, but hes not a rookie;
they are looking at candidate, but hes not a rookie

i am just wondering if its a rookie we had last year and what our strength coach said, its a safety or cb quincy butler, our strength coach said that his potential was unlimited if he put his head on straight and realized what he needed to do in workouts etc.

im sure its not mcquistan since hes not a rookie, but potential is high;

only other guy that i know of is the wr that we signed a couple of weeks ago; richardson something, the guy from arena league, they said his potential was outstanding and he wowed the cowboys.

also they said, that the colts wanted to sign him too,

now on to the draft pick, i think first the cowboys want to try to draft adrian peterson if he drops, if not, go after tedd ginn jr, he would brighten our kickoffs and punt returns while he learns wr position, you could also use him some at 3rd wr and on reverses with his blazing speed. Remember best i remember a rule change was made by nfl, to move the kickoffs back 5 yards, what does that mean, more returns on kickoffs for huge yardage and touchdowns. That is ginn jr one of his strengths.

i have also heard reports back to peterson, that if he does fall, that the cowboys have talked with the cardianals about their 40th pick, and that we would get that pick, if we get peterson, and cardinals pass on him for julius jones.

Good thread... Now this is interesting! :)

I'd say Julius and Crayton are great guesses. The others will make too much money. (And in Newman's case, there isn't anyone comparable in this draft.)

I wonder if Hamlin could be one. He's a mid-level safety who'll be a FA next year.

Aaron Glenn is another, though he's getting older.

BTW, I'm sure Jerry meant they were looking at film or discussing the player, not that he was at Valley Ranch.

Thats new to me. I know they were talking about moving the kickoffs back in college football.

I bet the 5/$20 million is Julius. That would be comparable, if slightly less, than what McGahee got from Buffalo (5/25). Terrence Newman is going to cost a heck of a lot more than 5/25. Nate Clements got 8/$80 from San Francisco. (I love Terrence, but that's a pretty good argument for drafting a CB). I doubt Crayton gets close to 5/$20. That's pretty pricey for a #3 WR. Mike Furrey caught 98 passes this year and signed 3/$9.

If the Cowboys are bringing in players this late in the game, it probably means they're pretty interested. If so, the visit was probably super secret as to not give away the scent. Someone just needs to keep the microphone away from Jerry's face for the next 48 hours.

They talked about moving the initial kickoff in OTs back five yards.

Julius or Crayton seems to be the most likely. I'd say Crayton.

Perhaps Julius Jones is out and Trung Canidate is in, if he pans out? See below for details.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

From Mick Shots - April 25

Continuing to prove no stone should be left unturned, the Cowboys will work out former NFL running back Trung Canidate out here at The Ranch on Thursday. Canidate, the one-time first-round draft choice of the St. Louis Rams, is attempting a comeback after last being on an NFL roster with the Washington Commanders in 2004 when he was inactive all season with a serious football injury. He has not played any football the past two years. Canidate last carried for the Commanders in 2003, starting 10 of the 11 games he played, gaining 600 yards on 142 carries. Word out there is he’s back running a 4.4 40. We’ll see.

Wow. I'm not the biggest JuJo fan around (I don't think he's bad, just average and we can do better then average), but I'd take JuJo over Bush any day of the week. Bush's style doesn't project well to the pros (as a HB, he'd probably be better off moving to FB). And the injury, plus the needed SECOND surgery due to that injury, will hamper him.

JuJo > Bush

I doubt that Crayton would cost the Cowboys that much...

My hunch would be Kyle Kosier, and the rookie he's referring to is Justin Blalock (who the Boys are supposedly quite high on)...

Jamel Richardson, and he came from the CFL, not the Arena League...

But if it is Julius, then the rookie would likely be Adrian Peterson, and he'll cost that much his own self...

Unless the Boys are indeed interested in taking a chance on Michael Bush in the 3rd or 4th round range... but would Bush be ready to shoulder a big load this year??
