I thought this might answer some of your questions. Here is my spreadsheet. M is man plays, everything else is zone.

“Last year we could lean on the run. That affected everything we did. We were successful on first down. It was like a luxury. Even if they were playing the run, we were still getting yards. McFadden has fit in well. But it has been different.”

Direct quote from Linehan.

Just out of sync. Probably a lot to do with the fact McFadden wasn't even around in camp with his little hamstring issues.

It's what I've been saying for a while. I don't think it was Sturm that showed me those stats, somebody else that I can't remember. And I started to see it badly in games. As ScipioCowboy said, he really don't have that cutback move. What I see a lot of defenses doing with McFadden is that they will figure out what side the ball is going to be run towards and slant hard that way. The O-Line has to reach block and try to shove them that way. In order for the play to work, the RB has to cut back and DMC just doesn't have that and it usually ends up for a short game.

I don't think DMC is a bad RB at all. But, he's not a good fit for this scheme. We can re-work things by using more man blocking, but it doesn't make us as diverse with where we run. We become a much more in between the tackles team that favors left side instead of running left or right and inside or outside the tackles.

Pretty much. I'm guessing with the averages, but with the small amount of carries and high ypc, I bet most, if not all his big runs came from man blocking.

He had two big runs last week. The first two as a Dallas Cowboy. Take out those two runs and his stats are probably even more horrid.

They've been running those toss plays since day one. Collins is the outlier on those plays. As he has gotten better, so has the effectiveness of tosses.
That 50-yarder was run away from Collins' side, and he didn't touch anybody.

The more of those toss plays we run, the more it opens up the middle. We have to try to stretch defenses horizontally, because the vertical ain't happening.

It's all on the coaches. Parcells said coaches have to be resourceful enough to find all the ways they can to defeat the opponent. This coaching staff has been preoccupied with the process and forgotten about available resources.

Really? I thought his longest run was when Tyron and Collins both pulled and Collins was running with him down the sideline.
