Also even if CJ's number didn't apply to Dez next year...he'd get 120% of his 12.8M anyways. That number is the floor for him now.

If he starts skipping games I say he would not only lose 750k this year, but he would lose 900k a game next year.

He would go from a potential 15.4m back to the WR tag, which was 12.8m this year if he missed multiple games.

The rule says he will get 120% of his 2015 salary or the WR tag, whichever is greater.

I know that the franchise tag is based on an average of the top salaries for a given position, and in Dez case it is at wide receiver. Everyone knows that Calvin Johnson's contract is artificially inflating the franchise tag number because it was a unique signing. Eventually Calvin Johnson's contract will eventually come off of the books (and it will likely come off the books before the expiration of Dez' next contract). When does Johnson's contract expire and when will it cease to be considered in setting the franchise tag number? When it ceases to be a factor could the franchise tag number for wide receivers actually fall? If so what effect do you think it has strategically on the current situation with Dez?
I posted something similar last week.

He isn't skipping games. Also I don't know if that's true about losing out on game checks. His salary is 12.8M.

Doesn't matter. He isn't holding out.

If he doesn't play he won't get paid
But I agree
He's not that stupid
He will play either under a new deal or under the tag
Personally I feel like a deal will get done but from the teams point of view, two years with the tag might very well be the best option

I think you are correct. According to Jason, Dez is passionate about football and his work ethic wont let him skip games.

I think you better start a fund me for DEZ, just in case he needs some money. Since you got the big time smarts and money I know you can make this happen.

It's not me its my big brains. they half a mind of their own but thanks for the complement. As to Dez a kickstarter account might be in order. If every American could send in 50 cents pretty soon he'd half more money than Hugh Heifer.

There was a discussion about this last week.

The non-exclusive tag is based on the past 5 years; therefore, the effect of CJ's contract will be a slow drop off when it is gone. His contract is not over for several more years, but he likely be cut or take a pay cut at some point.
