Word is that the Saints will release fullback Mike Karney after signing former Pats fullback Heath Evans.

I think Karney would be a definite upgrade for the Cowboys and help to make the transition to a more power-based rushing offense.

Saints to release FB Karney

This shouldn't come as a big surprise because the Saints have been shopping for fullbacks in free agency. But a league source said the Saints will release incumbent starter Mike Karney.

He's been with the Saints since 2004 and was known for his blocking ability. But the Saints soured on Karney for some reason and they've been looking at free agents Heath Evans (New England) and Leonard Weaver (Seattle).
Look for New Orleans to sign either Evans or Weaver soon.

Yeah, sure thing.

Anderson shouldn't be on an NFL roster.

Sometimes I think you just argue for the sake of arguing.

No, he isn't.

And if we signed Karney at least Bradie James wouldn't have to worry about getting owned for multiple TDs in any given game next season.

Oh, he'd still have to worry about that one.

I didnt say Anderson was great, just that he is better than Karney, who stinks.

People in here think because he had a huge fluke of a game 3yrs ago here that he is actually a good player. The truth is he sux and thats why they replaced him.

No, your truth might be he sux. That doesn't make it true by any means.

Karney is a highly-regarded power fullback while Deon Anderson is a nobody who's not very good in any role.

Too bad if you're still mad at Karney for embarrassing the Cowboys a few years back.

I'd rather have a player who brings a physical presence to our running game over a guy who simply brings mental mistakes and below average performance.

Stash, why do you think they got rid of him for Heath Evans?

Karney has had health issues. It's not always about a player's ability.

Even injured Karney is better then Anderson. Anderson has done almost nothing.

Because they're looking for a more versatile fullback, not the physical blocker.

Evans is definitely a better runner than Karney is.

Evans is a jack-of-all-trades fullback, Karney is a sledgehammer.

I want the sledgehammer.

I dont know that Karney is a "sledgehammer"...The Saints havent been a very good running team for quite some time, and he's obviously part of that. Havent watched many saints games, but when I have he has never stood out, other than the one fluke game vs us with the 3 short td catches against the braindead Zimmer scheme.

I think he's an average NFL FB at best. As Hos mentioned, Anderson at least is a special teams ace.

I agree with Hos. Karney had one game people remember and some how he's not this respected blocker and upgrade to teams.

If he was such a great blocker in the run game I think the Saints would be able to run the ball better than they do. Thomas came on at the end but where was the running game prior to that? I guess Karney only blocks when it's not Reggie Bush in the backfield.

that has more to do w/ the fact that Reggie always cuts it outside and gets rundown, and 'roiding has caught up to Deuce

but Karney is a one-trick pony, all he can do is block, he doesn't play special teams, and isn't much of a receiver, or runner, so I no want
