Interestingly, not too many veteran RBs have been signed

thus far, other than D Foster. (I can't think any others right now.)

This may bode well for us when prices start coming down in FA.

this does not come as a surprise to me. There is not a possible franchise type of RB out there, not even Turner. And with the depth of RBs in this years draft. those are probably the reasons teams are not grabbing these guys very quickly.

Doomsday nailed it. This is the deepest RB class in quite a while and there will be quality backs into the 2nd day. So why spend millions on a FA RB when you can nab a back of equal value for a few hundred thousand a year?

I think they are part of that second wave of free agents signings. Gm's are gauging the market and what is going on with the bigger names and I think from there running backs will be signed through out the month.

I'm almost certain Dallas will select a RB in either the late 1st round or 2nd round...

They dang near have to. We are going into the season with Barber right now as our only back and it does not look like we are signing anyone in FA.

Whoever it is just better be a decent blocker because that is one thing Julius was better at than Barber is. Hopefully Barber has learned a little more in that aspect.

Actually, an FA back is a good investment at this point - reason being that it is very much a buyer's market. these backs are going to have to take deals with little guaranteed money, performance clauses, etc.

I like Tatum Bell and M. Moore for this reason - maybe Moore a little better as he's got return experience -- neither breaks the bank and nobody here is crying if a rookie takes their PT.

BTW -- another reason why not many vet RBs have signed is that a) two guys who would have drawn interest went off the market before FA -- Jamal Lewis and Justin Fargas and b) the UFA list is so thin that Julius Jones is probably the 2nd best available back.

Have said this a couple of times in a few different posts. Do not be surprised if JJ resigns with us for a year or so. The best deal for him may be right here in Dallas.

There is a chance that he may get signed yet but things will probably not happen until after the draft. The teams who don't get the starting back they were hoping for will then be in the market to sign somebody.

I'm holding my breath hoping that Rock Cartwright won't see what he wants in this market and will re-sign with us. Maybe for once the Skins played it right in letting him test the waters.

I totally agree with you -- we could put JJ in a very good place to highlight his talents if we don't pickup a solid player in the draft

I also think that with recent success stories like Ryan Grant and Ahmad Bradshaw, the depth reaches out beyond the draft as well now.

Also, some teams have shown that RB-by-committee is a viable option, where having several productive backs could be a better option than one *BIG* back. Giants showed that losing a starter doesnt mean you have to change your gameplan drastically b/c the level of talent is about equal; no major drop off.

Exactly.

That was the point of this thread.

It's looking like a buyer's market. We may be able to get good value and experience and pay very little.

Plus, we can add a rookie somewhere in the Draft.

This is all looking very affordable.

that, and maybe the class for CBs isn't as strong as we once thought
