Paul Warfield mistakenly placed behind Randy Moss. Moss is a nice big play receiver, no doubt, but Warfeild was the more complete WR.
bet you think T.O. is a better wr than moss too

Sorry but to me Jerry Rice as the best WR is a joke. Of course he is the greatest because he was great over a long period of time. But if you judge him by pure talent there is no way he is no. 1.

Moss is the best there was and there is right now. And if you don't belive me just listen to those reporters with football background like John madden. He said about Moss: Just imagine a bigger taller faster Jerry Rice with better hands.

Rice played in a great offense. He had great support most time of his career. Not to diminish his accomplishements but he was never unstoppable like Moss is. When Moss is at his best teams could cover the deep ball with 3 db's and he still made the catch.

This is like comparing Sampras and Aggasi und Tennis. Agassi had all the talent but he had times where he didn't had his head in tennis. Sampras was the more consistent player over a long period of time but when agassi was into tennis Sampras was just a spectator on the place watching real talent. Same with Moss. He didn't dominate over a long time but he has by far the most talent and by far IS the best WR in the game.

I can't think of a receiver who played the game with as much passion as Michael Irvin.

So, if they took that into consideration, I think he should be ranked 4th. Maybe not by the numbers or by yardage. But by passion? Absolutely.

I wonder if there's a "Best Complementary/#2-WR" list out there. Alvin Harper would be on it fo' sho'...

he was the best WR in football from 1991-1996, not Fairy Rice..much to the dismay of the pro Niner media

David

I remember an interview with Jerry Rice from about that time where he even called Irvin the best WR in football.

Higher than I'd expect. It's nice to see him get that level of respect.

Uh, yeah he was. 1987 when he caught 22 TDs in 12 games; several Super Bowls; 1995 when he set the single-season record for yardage. I hated the guy, but there's never been a better WR in my football watching life-time (I started watching in 1981, so I can't judge a guy like Hutson.)

disclaimer: Granted I am not as old as most of the people on this board and lack a comprable historic perspective on players. I did get to see Irvin play in the glory days and watch rice, well some of him. I have watched all of Moss's carrier. I don't think I ever saw a WR be as consistently dominate over every corner that got matched up with him as Irvin. Not to mention he played with the all time leading rusher. Moss has always played in a passing oriented system. Is it just me or should Moss be behind not only Irving but a few other guys?

Honestly, noone loves the Cowboys more then me.......but, Irvin is NOT the 4th best WR of all-time.....sorry

Well then who is? You can't make a blanket statement like this without backing it up. Irvin is placed in the right spot IMO. He set the trend for the big physical wideouts that are in the NFL today. He came up big in the big game, his playoff numbers are 2nd only to Rice. He is in the right place.
