Is Anyone As Worried As I Am About Dez's Non-Exclusive Tag?

It's one thing to think that the draft picks could turn into quality players but I think the idea that we can consistently find players who turn into all-pro rookies is just not reasonable.

I do not think the draft is 100%, but allocating like 15mil a season to a player who disappears sounds less appealing than 2 1st rd picks.

If someone offered to trade you Zach Martin and Travis Fredbeard for Dez Bryant, wouldn't you take it? Beyond that unless they put a poison pill into the contract, we still have the ability to match it.

So you get to know the picks and how successful they will be? Ok. I'll take it!!

Late first rounders are valuable.. There's always some team willing to trade back into the first willing to give up 2nds and 3rds.. You could wind up 2 or 3 more starters..

Just saw a blog that correctly pointed out a team like Indy could look at giving up two #1s, especially since they're likely to be late rounders, as very reasonable for the opportunity to land Dez. Oh, and they have a ton of cap room. They could lock up the Luck to Dez connection for life, just like we think we're going to do.

Why do I get a really bad feeling about this?

cause you're bored and want to, usually.

Poison pills no longer exist.

Regardless, few teams are foolish enough to trade two firsts for a WR, no matter how good they are. Denver did the same for Thomas, and I doubt they are sweating it a bit.

The fact that the last time this happened, Jones got saddled with Galloway and Holmgren added a couple of long term starters should tell you something.

I also think Cowboy fans underestimate how Bryant's volatility is viewed outside the organization. NFL decision makers are a cautious lot and are not likely to trade two firsts for a source of worry. No matter how much Bryant is glorified, he cannot be described as a sure superstar in all aspects. If there were no worries about his off the field behavior, past or present, of course there is concern. There is a reputation that no matter what Bryant does will exist.

Nope unless there is a video of Dez meeting Luck in a walmart parking lot I'm not buying it. He stays.

Dallas could always match. Remember they would get the franchise cap money back.

I would be if Jerry Jones owned another team. No one else is going to follow his lead and give up 2 1st round picks for a WR.

Must be the bad picante sauce you put on your eggs, Jerry isn't letting Dez go...

Atlanta gave up nearly that much just for the possibility of getting an elite WR in Julio Jones. We can question whether it's a good decision or not, but we can also look to much more recent history to find evidence that teams may be willing to do just that.

Not at all.
The way receivers in the draft have been coming in and performing, I don't see teams making this move. Any team in the NFL, including the Cowboys, would take a Beckham Jr. and his rookie contract, along with their draft picks over Dez and his contract any day of the week.

That said, we will match just about any reasonable offer, and if a team wanted to totally wreck their cap with a monster contract that we can't match, we'd take double #1's the next two years and build a great team.

If we roll out Dez and Demaryius Thomas on opening day then I am totally blaming you for tempting fate.

well that would be pretty interesting here as we'd have no rb, 3/5ths of an OL, and spanky on defense going I DARE YOU TO DO THAT AGAIN!!!

but that would be a fun team to watch lose 16 games.

2 first rounders and Dez would come with a $100 million contract. That's the issue with trying to get a franchised player. And the Cowboys could still match the offer unless there is a poison pill contract, but that only makes it so the Cowboys can't match the offer, it doesn't mean that Dallas still doesn't get the first 2 rounders.

Also, from a monetary standpoint it would be tough for Dez to leave Dallas because of Dallas' market size. The only teams worth leaving for as far as off-the-field exposure and money would be either NY team, the Pats, and maybe Chicago. Otherwise, you're looking at a team that is going to have substantially sweeten the pot.

If a team were to give up two decent #1's, I'm not sure I wouldn't be OK with that. And I don't mean that as any kind of slight to Dez.
