Is anyone else thinking we'd be better off resting Murray?

Playoffs started for us when we lost to the Eagles on Thanksgiving.

Don't count on anyone's help but your own.

All hands on deck in full battle rattle.

Did you also see Merrill Hoge speak about breaking the same bone and how they put a U shaped piece of metal around his hand, which allowed him to grip the ball and use it for blocking, and he played the next week.

Fact is he played for a quarter and a half after breaking his bone. NFLN is a product of ratings. They have to have something to speak about.

Frankly, I'd be okay resting him, not for his hand, but for his legs. I agree, this whole hand issue is much ado about nothing. But I want this guy as fresh as possible when we hit playoff time. And yes, we will hit playoff time because we are going to beat the Colts and if necessary, the Commanders.

It's not even a serious injury, it's a broken bone in his off hand ring finger.

I was deadlifting a week after a much more serious version of his injury on the 5th metacarpal (pinkie finger), and I'm just a regular dude. He's fine.

We don't have the luxury to rest anyone if they can otherwise play. Losing even just one game is tantamount to season ending. We don't risk that to "rest" players.

This is more or less my concern. I'm seriously thinking we would be better off having him waiting in the wings in case Randle and Dunbar stink it up. I just think we should give them a shot to prove themselves. I suspect they could carry the load enough to give us a decent running game without the risk of playing a potential hazard.

This seems reasonable depending on the severity of Murray's injury and whether or not it limits his game in any way. It would be nice if the team showed some confidence in the backups. I know Weeden stunk it up against the Cards, but I was holding my breath when Romo came back into the game against the Commanders, especially after Weeden led a successful drive.

I would have him ready to go but start Randle and Dunbar for at least the first quarter. Depending on the results, sacks given up by the backs, etc. Then at that point we'd know if we can keep Murray on ice or call him up. My guess is that we will be ok with the RB by committee option...

Start Murray.

Let them defend that.

Then hit 'em with the other two............

My feeling is this team now needs to go on a winning streak. ANY loss means the end of the season, be it Colts or Commanders, or in the play-offs.

So its win six straight, or see you next year.

I wouldn't be worried if he didn't play. But there's no way if I'm Murray I'm not going out there. He's got too much to lose by missing time to injury and letting other backs put up numbers with his OL.

i think you dress murray and try to go with randle and dunbar
murray comes in only if needed
the key is actually martin and free. if they both play then murray may not be needed esp is both Hilton and davis are out

I think part of my reasoning is because I'm not nearly as worried about the Colts as some on here. I think the Colts are fraudulent. Their offensive and defensive lines are awful. The ONLY thing that mildly concerns me is the fact that Luck never quits and we have the capacity to let our foot off the gas when we get a decent lead. I could see us leading by 21 at half time and then watch Luck slowly chip away at that lead until we're all wringing our hands with worry by the end of the game.

But if we don't allow ourselves to become complacent in the second half, we'll win by two touchdowns at least.

I don't know if I would want to see Murray coming in cold. He gets stronger as the game goes on.
The other two are used to getting minimal carries. I'd start him and see how he does/feels after a few series.

That's what I think happens, too. Murray's going to play. If we block well and he can get his yardage, he probably guts it out until the game isn't in question, with just a series or two of getting subbed. Given Romo playing all year with a broken back, and what's on the line, I'd bet every offensive player is just going to play unless the medical personnel rule them out. If the game is ever in control, we'll sub for the injured guys, but I don't really expect this game to be in control unless we get multiple turnovers early on.

I say don't start Murray, but keep him ready if he's absolutely needed. If you can survive the Colts game with a win, do it. That way, we walk the fine line of keeping Murray rested, and winning a must win game.

Take it for what it is worth, but I have seen and heard several segments on ESPN, NFL Network..etc....with so called medical experts claiming that this type injury has happened many times in the NFL and most if not all cases the player missed a minimum of one game when it involved a skill position like RB.

This team can ill afford to throw Murray in the game and he ends up with a crucial fumble or two. Yeah Yeah...I know, they have survived it in the past, but that was with a healthy Murray not a gimped up Murray that cant hold onto the ball properly.

I think if its not overwhelmingly evident that he can't play the position, i.e. fumbles, etc etc then I would let Murray decide.

I think he wants to play, i think he wants that record, i think the players and coaches want him to get that record...

And I don't think that's a bad thing.

I agree with the crowd that says lets not overpay Murray. I get it.

But there is more to Murray then just his skill and position.

I think he is just one of those guys, you want on your team. He "fits" what Garret and Company and what the Cowboys are and have become. Lunch Pale guys. Get to work guys. Thats Murray. His attitude and work ethic and no nonsense demeanor is perfect for this team, this OLINE.

Him leaving next year will change the "locker room", significantly I think.....

We really haven't seen Randle and Dunbar carry the load, but don't you think they could put up over a hundred yards rushing combined?

There is a serious concern with Murray fumbling the ball as well as failing to protect Romo in pass blocking. There is also the benefiting of rest. He would be better prepared for the playoffs.

The playoffs started with Chicago game. So ask yourself...is it better to site Murray during playoffs? The answer is no.
