I'm always excited about the start of a new season. I just don't confuse that with my expectations of what to expect as the season unfolds. There's always the mysterious possibility of the unexpected that keeps everyone on the edge of their seats. That excites me. However, my expectations are tempered by what I have and haven't seen happen in the offseason.

Sorry buzz.

I never have trouble getting excited for football.

5-11, 13-3, doesn't matter to me.

I think the team has the talent to win the Super Bowl. But some things need to fall in place and some people on the team (not just players) need to step up their game for it to happen. The thing that sort of gets me un-excited about the season is that feeling come week 3 we'll see some of those people haven't stepped up their game at all and the season will end in another disappointment.

It just feels like the work weeks blow by.

Especially when there is a big Monday Night game or a Big College game on Thursday Nights on ESPN.

And the Ultimate Fighter will be on Wednesdays this year too with Kimbo Slice.

And.. AND...! there is a new season of the Office coming on in September.

Its the most wonderful tiiiiime of the yeeeeeaaaar.

That's awful late to be starting, but I can't wait for that day.

Training camp starts and school ends. For good.

I can't imagine not being excited about a Cowboys season when the team is in position to contend. The fact that we didn't put it together last season doesn't ruin my anticipation for the coming season one bit.

It's not like we're going into a season with a 60 year old Vinny Testaverde at the helm and no hope of contending. Those were miserable years. If we had that kind of team, I'd understand why a segment of our fans are so butthurt.

If I was excited about all the 5-11 years to start knowing the team wasn't great I can sure as heck be excited about this one. I'm convinced that most of the problems last year stemmed from injuries. I wan't to see the 8-8 prediction guys eat raw crow.

I was jacked for the 2000-2002 seasons even though I knew we would likely struggle.

When we actually have talent? There's no question.

I was super excited about those seasons as well but my expectations were not that high. I was even excited for the season during the late 1980's. What got me so bad was that I was SURE we were going to win the superbowl last year. I mean I had absolutely no doubts. When we stunk up the joint it really got me down. I was depressed about the whole situaion and it has dragged on through the off season. I guess its more like that I am scared to ever let my expectations get as high as they were last year. Maybe I need to take an "expect the worse and hope for the best" approach. I just can't ever let my expectations get as high as they were last year because it it a long way back to the ground when reality sets in.:banghead:

Interesting topic.

Football season is something to always look forward to (heck if i can follow closely every play of the Campo years i must love football and my team).

However.. this is a real 'show me something' year.

The excitement of moving into a new stadium has been tempered with the knowledge that essentially the same staff we have had for the last few seasons, remains in charge.

The Giants loss at home two seasons ago and the Philly game last year leaves me with a bad taste that is difficult to wash clean.

Those were horrendous losses.

Good staffs seldom, if ever, experience those types of defeats, and to expect Wade and company to 'turn the switch'.. boom.. lead a team to greatness, might be wishing on a star.

So while i anxiously await training camp and a new season, i am.. guarded.. in my expectations for 2009. Which is a shame.

Damn, I can't believe Pittsburgh got to six before us.

As always, go Cowboys.

why on earth did you buy into the hype machine?

and why in the name of pete would you go into things expecting the worst?

is it not possible to just enjoy the games? why expect anything?

In the guys defense that 'hype machine' was legitimate.

We seemed primed for a deep deep run coming off the season prior (despite what i feel was a very very revealing loss to NY).

Expectations play a big part in cheering for a lot of people.

I followed the start of the Jimmy years with a different mind set than the Campo years.

Early 90s, looking for players, building towards something, confident in improvement etc.. Much different under Campo. Still watched but it wasn't the same of course, just as it wasn't the same when i watched in the 70s.

Losses mean a lot more when expectations are high, just as wins are more exciting when you are a contender.

Last season was a lead balloon, no doubt.

Sometimes its hard to get the engine revving again.. but everyone is different.

having trouble getting excited about the upcoming season. Last season disappointed me so much. I expected so much last season it really bummed me out. I have always been excited about upcoming seasons no matter how bad we did the year before but this year it is different. I pray they give me something to get excited about this year.:(

I'm excited about every season, but the negative vibes from Cowboys faithful have made it difficult to enjoy the offseason and anticipate the new season. Even Shango has become a gloom and doom kinda guy. Yeah, I know about reality as some folks like to call negativity, but in reality the Cowboys are a pretty good team that gets in its own way. A more disciplined, well-oiled machine on offense, defense and special teams and the skies the limit. Time will tell.

I don't know, I am not going to let them selling the team so hard last season taint my abillity to enjoy the team I have rooted for my whole life.

Who cares if last year was jerry basically selling the new stadium, and he hoped we would lead into this season as superbowl champs, didn't work out that way.

It's still the dallas cowboys to me.

Its not negativism as much as experience.

This team needs to make a 180 from last season. A total 180!!

This was a mentally poor, physically weak, and questionably coached team last season.

The offensive line (same guys, mind you.. coached by the same coach) have to play significantly better than last year. Thats just for starters.

Wade has to completely change a mindset that saw his team essentially quit two seasons in a row. I don't think i have ever seen a Cowboys team give up like this group did in the 4th quarter of the Giant game, and the Philly game last year.

Can they do it, God i hope so.

I am excited, but my guard is up. I will keep all our victories in perspective. This team has a tendency to look unstoppable one second and then totally out of wack the next. Who would a thought, leaving the Green Bay game, that our season could possibly end the way it did?

Unbelievable collapse.
