Is Beasley Legit?

I my have misunderstood. Are you saying Coale is a short non speedy slot type guy or Harris? Cause Coale, at 6 foot and a 4.37, is neither short or slow.

I think he's saying that Harris and Beasley are both short, slower slot types, and we're unlikely to keep them both, since Coale also has the ability to be a quick slot receiver.

He's like 5'8", 170 which would make him one of the five smallest players in the league. I have my doubts that he can hold up over the course of an NFL season, and that's assuming he carries his offseason workouts over into the real thing.

He can probably hold up if he's our 4th or 5th receiver. I'd like to see what he can do returning punts too although he could potentially get killed out there doing that :laugh2:

Agreed.

WR's: Austin, Bryant, Holmes, Harris, Beasley and Coale

We carry 2 QB's and go heavy at WR.

Good call. I could easily see that. I think Ogletree could be done and we'll only carry 2 QBs which makes carrying 6 WRs realistic.

Ahh, thank you. It is early and I have not had my coffee yet.

Here are the measureables for the Cowboys WRs with Desean Jackson and Wes Welker included for comparison.

(click twice to enlarge the spreadsheet)

Notes about the measureables:

Beasley:
Outweighted Desean Jackson.
Had the best Bench Press of the WRs that performed the BP.
Decent 40, but his agility numbers are not great.
Decent hand size, especially considering his small overall size.
Excellent Vert and Broad Jumps, especially considering his size.

Welker
Thick at 5-9, 195.
Slow, with 4.65 forty.
Best Short Shuttle.
Average 3-cone.
Below average Vert.

Danny Coale
Not short, over 6'.
Best 3-cone.
Excellent Short Shuttle.
Forty, 4.38 at Pro Day but 4.5 at Combine.

Wow, people are putting the guy on the team already.

Tone it down folks.

I've read great minicamp reports on studs like Macey Brooks

I was saying the same thing. There is no WAY Jackson is 175. I've heard estimates that he's closer to 120.

120? :laugh2:

I think its silly to put an UDFA on the team based upon reports of performance before he has to compete with the entire roster and in pads.

All these invitees have a quality or two that got them invited. It shouldn't be shocking when they display it. The question is whether they can overcome their flaws which have not yet been exposed.

Need some help- I like his tape, seems to have great quicks. In his interview he says he patterns his game alot like Steve Smith of the Panthers.... for those in the know.... tell us a little about the guy.

He's getting/gotten rave reviews from mini-camp and the first two practices of rookie tc's.
We'll find out more when real football begins.
All we know at ths point is he is doing what he's suppossed to do given the limited situation that they are all playing in.

Exactly...............

We all get excited about what is new and unknown.
I'll say this though, he has peaked my curiosity.

Seriously.

At his height you'd hope for either more weight or top flight speed. I know people will point to his bench press which was pretty good-- but guys will short arms like him always do better on that.

Best case I see is PS and try to get some weight on him

I think his battle is with Harris to make the roster as I think it is unlikely we keep two short, non-speedy slot guys on the roster since Coale can also be used similarly.
Harris is 5'10 1/2 and about 200 lbs

Their sizes are not very comparable.

Harris also has a faster 3 cone and 20 time.

Both of them have decent speed but not great by any means.
Beasely seems to be the more polished route runner.
But 5'7 and 175 is pretty small.

Intriquing for sure.

U dont have to run a 4.4 40 at WR to be good in the NFL....

If your are 175, you kinda do

Meh, Welker is a midget and has never come close to 4.4 in his life.

The reality is that the only position where speed is a necessity if you're undersized is corner.

I think Welker is 20 lbs heavier....huge diff.

I'm not writing of Beasley based on that, but making a pt.

LOL, and don't forget Ken-Yon Rambo, Stepfret Williams, Everett Gay, Billy Davis, and Kelvin Edwards.

I'm more excited to see Coale. He is bigger, stronger, faster, more highly regarded, and just as white. :D what you have to understand is our third WR really needs to be able to play outside because Miles will be in the slot a lot. That is they are having Beasley playing outside a lot too. Having two WR that are good at both inside and outside is ideal. I'd rather Coale than Cole. I think they will go 6 though with Dez, Miles, Holmes, the Co(a)les, and Harris.
