Is Bland better in the slot or on the outside?

Actually on the field a season length would be super!.

Hes much better in slot. With the first selection of their first round the Dallas cowboys select CB Moonsor Delane LSU. sadly we may need 2 corners cause Carson sucks. Maybe Reddy Stewart can amount to something. I think no pressure is also an issue. We need a bunch

Really good slot corner, but they aren’t paying him to do that anymore
I say just put him where he's best. In today's NFL you need 3 starting caliber corners - at least. If we can draft another CB to stick on the outside, that trio can work if you have two out of three on rookie deals.

No question ...on the outside. His lack of foot speed gets exposed having to cover in multiple directions in the slot. He is a master of using the sidelines to his advantage.

Bland's knack seem to be breaking on an out. Better to keep him outside.
Thank you....someone that gets it. All this BS that he's a slot cb...are people just wishing he could fill the shoes of Jordan Lewis. Why move a guy that literally was the defensive player of the year a couple of years ago???? That's how dumb Eberflus was...let's move a guy that could impact games...with game changing interceptions...

First of all, it is hard to evaluate Bland this season as he was dealing with a foot injury all year long that required surgery. He and all the corners has their struggles this season. Part of it is lack of pass rush, also playing more of a zone scheme in which they played a ton of press man in the past and lack of execution.

Since that Seattle game a few years back, Bland has really struggled. Now a lot has to do with getting hurt, where the Cowboys have an out in his contract after next season, but they have to determine where he fits best: in the slot or as an outside corner?
Bland just needs to get his head out of his rear end and simply start playing much better football, regardless of scheme.

Isn't this an easy answer Wherever the new DC says he's better.. Can they not evaluate watch film and they will choose not the fans If you want my input I'd say it was always a slot it may be only a slight difference but that's where he was at his best and should go back to they have an offseason to fill in veteran corner whether it's just a tier two guy to start on the other outside and then revel year 2 and Bland inside..Carson/butler depth and nickel etc.

Think we get a better pass rush a more pressure style and A DC who could put these guys in better places I think it'll look better instantly anyway Matt really screwed this up on all three levels regardless if there was some missing talent oregon lack of talent..

yep. Comes off the books for a 17 million dollar hit.
Just looked at the contract, it is a dead hit charge of 13 million which can be split into two with a june 1st release. That is a contract that can easily be absorbed if it doesn't work out.

Bland’s injuries to his foot are very concerning. Second surgery on his foot in two years. I also thinks he needs to be on a pressure oriented defense. I think our defense to be successful needs to be more like the Chiefs and Vikings schemes. Bland strength is he has a nose for the football and he has great hands for a corner but he is not good at covering wide receivers 1 on 1.

Agree, works better with a pressure scheme where he can jump routes.

What are your thoughts about Orr as DC? I understand the Ravens did struggle, but did you like his scheme?

Orr is interesting. The Ravens defense fell apart in the end but that was because of injuries. He would be great for our defensive tackles. He plays bully ball with his front 7. Orr shutdown Chicago and Cincinnati when the defense was somewhat healthy. In 2024 the Ravens defense was top 10 in the league when everyone was healthy. The problem is for his scheme to work you need a good Mike and safeties that can play. I would be fine with him being the Cowboys defensive coordinator.

Someone else had already mentioned how Micah's impact on both Diggs and Bland's performance showed what they were good at.

Without that, neither Diggs or Bland are a stand alone shut down corner who can take away opponent WR1s on a weekly basis.

But...
They were both given contracts as if they were that type of alfa, outside boundary, leave 'em on an island corner.

And they just didn't possess the talent to be that.
They needed that type of pass rush to elevate their game because they couldn't cover WR1s man on man every week.
It's what separates the elite corners from the average to above average guys.

So with that said, all that scheme talk last season about the secondary switching to man to man with no credible consistent pass rush, was comical to me.

His scheme is very intriguing to me. Of coarse you are going to need players whomever they hire, but I like that attacking defense.

Orr would also stay as the coordinator for awhile, has two seasons as a defensive coordinator experience, and coached under McDonald. To be honest he is more qualified then Leonard to coach an NFL defense.
