Is Carr going to play with the huge cap hit?

I think Claiborne's recovery is key.

I'll be surprised if Claiborne makes it back. Not only has he not played well and missed most of the OTAs and training camps over his abysmal time here, he is also suffering from another physical setback that had him down to a scrawny 150lbs, how the heck does that happen? He'd better be lightning fast at this reduced weight (I think he's at 170 now), cuz nothing else is going in his favor.

Carr is an enigma to me, despite the struggles I sense that he could turn this all around and have a great year, which is probably what he thinks as well. There were extenuating circumstances before and I think he wants to play out the season then have Dallas gladly bring him back with his ego intact.

I really like Carr but I wish he would take a pay cut but he doesn't have to so I get it. He's still a good corner though.

It is a dilemma no doubt

I think he has until the end of the summer to see how he gets it back.

And obviously he's got issues.

That's why Jones is such a big option.

I think all of us get frustrated with it.

I mean this team has been trying to settle the secondary since drafting Terrence Newman and Roy Williams and injuries and something always.dismantled the project.

Same thing with LBer.

We have been a revolving door at those positions. Carter, Lee, Ro..the names fade from memory..

Bobby Carpenter?

Oh my.

I don't know who has more pressure on them.

Linehan without Murray or Marrinelli with so many new faces to bring along to slow the other team down.

When you take the savings from Carr and apply it to keeping the pass rush going not just this year but the next few years, it will pay dividends in the secondary.

They save 8m this year and 6.3m next year. That would be used to help keep Hardy and TCrawford.

Sign a vet cut after camp to help BJones, OScan and Claiborne at CB.

Not just about signing a new player, we still need to sign our own players. I hate that people can be so shortsighted.

What. We can do that whether or not he's on the roster next year. I don't want to unnecessarily cut a player and risk our CB depth. It would improve our cap yes, but at the opportunity cost of maybe a championship? Idk.

Last year Brandon Flowers came available late in free agency and had to settle on a 1 year 3 million deal. This year, 4 years 36 million. Not a lot of money gets thrown around late.

That's precisely what I'm saying. Carr better hope none of the young DBS show anything or he will end up playing for less than what Jerry is offering on a stinker of team.

It would be really really really nice to hit it big on an UDFA CB. Patmon looks to fill the bill let's hope and pray he can step up and make a difference.

Hes been working out all summer with Chris Harris. Im hoping it works out because I want Jones at safety.

I think we would be absolutely fine with

OScan
BJones
Claiborne
Patmon
CWhite
Vet CB signed during camp cuts
8m in cap space this and 6.4m next year

I agree, it all depends on how soon our pass rush starts producing. Carr's position is not as invulnerable as some here thinks.

I think Jerry is all in on the next 3 years, unless it's preventing them from signing another piece during that period I think he'll pay the premium for the depth and security that Carr provides vs a younger player

I thought the Cowboys would do something to reduce his cap hit this year but with only 10 days to camp nothing yet. Perhaps he refuses and the Cowboys have no choice. I don't think they want to cut him.

cowboys have leverage here. they don't have to release him or renegotiate until the last week of pre-season. if he is on the roster the first week they would owe him the money. so for now he is accounted for on the cap. cowboys can wait and see how things work out and if they want to push him into a reduced salary or release him. by then most teams are set with their personnel and salary cap, so it makes it tough on carr getting anything big like he has with us.

its all business.
