We really need to stop over investing in key talent on offense at WR and RB. Continue drafting well at those positions , keep revamping OL and invest in defense.

Thats the key to winning a championship without an Elite QB. Run the ball well and stop the run with a suffocating defense.

Paying someone market price

Using that justification is Jerry-like in it's lack of awareness. Dak's play had never set his value as tops in the league. Period.

It just doesn't make sense for someone like yourself, who lays the organizational issues at the feet of Jerry, to use that kind of reasoning for Dak's contract. That's Jerry's excuse.

This is why I'm a big proponent of ESPN's QBR. It doesnt just look at 4-5 stats without context like passer rating, it considers the team you're playing, their defensive rating, the situation in the game, what he does with his feet, almost everything. It's not a perfect measurement by any means, but its way better than just looking at completion % and yards and saying "This means hes good!" Dak had the third best passer rating in the league this year. But...

2021 Regular Season, QBR:

1. Aaron Rodgers 68.9
2. Tom Brady 68.4
3. Justin Herbert 66.0
4. Matthew Stafford 63.5
5. Patrick Mahomes 62.7
6. Josh Allen 60.7
7. Kyler Murray 56.8
8. Ryan Tannehill 56.2
9. Dak Prescott 54.7
10. Joe Burrow 54.4

This is much closer to what we saw all season. Dak was top 5 against bad teams, he murdered the Eagles, murdered the Teamers, lit up the Giants. But because of his play against the better teams, he settled in down at 9th.
Which is about where the people in that video have him.

And some will feel mistreated because he's at the bottom of the top 10 but all but one of those above him were 1st rounders.

There is nothing wrong with having a QB ranked at 9 and even paying him like a top 3 as long as they realize that he needs help. As good as Brees was, he still had help. The Saints usually had a top 5 OL because they realized the limitations of a short QB.

As long as people make the contract QB connection, they're not going to be happy with him and they will blame him because we can't have nice things. What about the other players that were in the top 6 paid at their positions? Did Lawrence, Cooper, Elliott or Smith equal their contract? Martin was the only highly paid player that did that.

People are reducing this down to one thing, the QB, and that's not the real problem. The real problem is that this brain trust still does not know how to put a team together and keep one together.

There is history of over paying less than Elite QB’s in this era.

But Jethro made several different missteps in handling Dak. First of all he knew they were all in on Dak from his Rookie season. Should have extended as early as his 2nd or 3rd season especially since his Rookie deal was only 4 years .

But he played the perception game as there was criticism on Daks abilities needing a stronger supporting cast like OL and running game to be effective . History has already shown that stopping our running game was a recipe to slow Daks effectiveness and our offense.

But Dak continued showing some signs when everything was going well he could be an upper echelon QB it raised his value . And Jethro continued waiting for more team success to validate paying him market price .

We had an opportunity to pay him in the low to mid 30 million range after his 3rd season . Even after Wilson was paid at 35 million we had an opportunity to match that even though we weren’t sure still.

I’m sorry but his contract is all on our owner . Once we waited for Franchise Tag, it was all over if we intended on keeping him. Dak was going to take Jethro to the cleaners. Simple as that .

Unless we were prepared to walk away which was never an option for Jethro. He was not going to let him go after replacing Romo with him. Plus Jethro knew his contract could be justified in his popularity and revenue generating image while continuing to maintain his ultimate goal of “ interesting and relative “ which our owner knew he could sell and hype our fanbase . And sadly , I’d argue he was right.

I dont think you got knocked out because of your coach, your QB, or specifically Jerry's atmosphere. I think it's an annual mistake thats dogged Dallas for 20+ years. Let me compile some data and I'll make a thread on it.

For those that what to move on what is your plan? Please be realistic and also keep in mind some prospects don’t pan out.

As 31 GM polled stated.....Tier 3 QB and headed for Tier 4 at some next year against a 1st place schedule.....

Dak is always going to be popular with some of the fan base. He talks a good game and conducts himself within the community with class. However, he disappears like Mandrake the Magician in big games. He's never going to take Dallas or any other team to the Super Bowl much less win it. The best we can hope for is that he takes his bucks and rides off in the Sunset never to be heard from again.

He condones violence against officials and calls fans that criticize him or the team after bad play "bandwagon fans".

His "class", as you say, is just as overrated as his abilities to play QB.

This popularity and image our owner can sell . And even build hype around.

The fact is this dysfunctional ownership simply is unable to build a championship caliber team with or without a QB.

Drafting QB s seems like it doesn’t always work out. Rather, it often doesn’t work out. ???? Seems that way anyway.

Sometimes it does though. They need to do something because Dak isn't the answer. They also haven't tried drafting a QB in the first round in 33 years.

Now who are the best Dallas Cowboys first round picks over the last 20 years?

In my opinion:

1. Demarcus Ware, drafted 11th overall
2. Tyron Smith, drafted 9th overall
3. Looking like Micah Parsons, Drafted 12th overall

How is future hall of famer Zack Martin not on this list?

Draft high for QB. Even use our highest draft pick for that despite the others needs we have. Then hope he gives Dak a run for his money.

Dak needs to challenged from within. Every day in practise.

I personally think he's in the upper half of QBs in the league, but definitely not top Level.
draft high? why? are they worth the pick? you just want vengence against Dak and in your mind drafting a QB will satisfy that vengence even if that QB is not worth it....facts are 4 out of 5 first round QBs fail. more fail lower in the round than higher in the round and the stats for 2-7 round is even worse. history tells us that the QB has to be really good in college, dominant and then get drafted in top 10 and even then 1 out of 2 or more fail....with the 24th pick, odds are really bad....and you would be reaching (remembrer Paxton Lynch, Manziel)..... I would rather take and OL man. Williams and Biadasz were clearly problematic...no one can deny that....if a top rated QB falls then we should consider, but not out of vengence and anger towards Dak. this has to be done rationally not out of emotions

You seemed to justify his decision in the end by acting like he had no choice but to sign Dak at that price.
Of course he had choices . No doubt. And In the end after all of the other poor choices , he didn’t have a choice if he wanted to keep him.

What you’re not grasping is the choices and why he made them is a huge part of my criticism .

I just look deeper into what motivates our owner to make the decisions he does and how he probably justifies them.
