Interesting..

And BTW, where the heck is Risen? This thread was tailor made for him...a softball, if you will. Once again...disappointed.
I was thinking the same thing.

Amen. I liked both Orton and especially Kitna. Outstanding back ups.

When you look at the backup QBs production in the same scheme/scenario/talent it not only speaks volumes about Dak Prescotts' 2016 Rookie year but also the football that should follow. In other words it's pretty plain to see that Dak is the real deal when looking at Kitna and Orton....even more importantly looking at starting QB Tony Romo and the talent surrounding him shows very well for Daks future as NFL compatible for the next Decade which will draw a lot more than 25 mil per over the next 10. I,too, have a very good feeling about Prescott. He came out of College with great fundamentals and a real work ethic. I am dying to see what he does this season.

With the new deal Derek Carr just signed....he has set the new bar for QBs.

Question I have is...Is Prescott worth that kind of money?

Because you know if he has anything close to a season like he did last season...He's gonna want that kind of money....And probably sit out until he gets it.

IMO a deal like that....would be worse than the Tony Romo deal...And look at that debacle. A team on an up swing...and we can't do nothing in free agency to get us over the top...and let key people walk in free agency...because we just didn't have the money.

Comments?

For starters, per the CBA, his deal can not be redone until after year three, so he won't sit out, because there is nothing to gain.

Second, even after year three, he's unlikely to be the highest paid QB for the same reason Russell Wilson wasn't and that's the team has a ton of leverage. Prescott will make $720k in 2019, which is a hell of a lot less than 25 million. So from a pure financial point of view, it makes no sense what so ever to play out 2019 if Dallas even offered $20 million. A 5 year deal at 20 million starting in 2019, is a better deal than waiting till 2020 and signing for 5 years at 25 million, because you have the potential to make more in 2024. This is all assuming that Prescott becomes an elite QB.

Third, Prescott is easily worth $30 million per if he's what keeps Kellen Moore off the field

You offer him 4/60m after 2018......100% guaranteed

then after 3 more great years you extend him early for 5/140m

Honestly...no player is worth that...

But here is the deal...Look What happens to your team if you soak that much money into one player..Saints prime example...Team fell apart. Lions....same deal...Couldn't afford to resign Suh. Team fell apart. I can very easily see this happening here. Too many high priced pieces...something will ahve to give...because you can't pay everyone. And let this sink in...Russell Wilson isn't just gonna settle. He knows he got short changed...and he's gonna wanna get paid for past , present/future services. Same thing is gonna happen here..

Cost of doing buisness. If Dak shows he's an elite QB, you pay him and worry about the details later

Floaty just wants him to leave so that his boy might have another failed shot at being a starter in the NFL.

Unfortunately for him that's not how the NFL works. If Dak continues to play at a high level, and improve, when it's time for his next contract then yes he's going to get paid, by the Cowboys, and he's going to be worth what they have to pay for him.

And Kellen will continue to be the back up QB for the remainder of his NFL career, which hopefully is over by the end of this season and they get a better back up.

Floaty and Risen are just dying inside that Dak had such a good rookie year and just want so badly for him to fail it's pathetic.

Since we can't even offer him a new deal for 2 more seasons this topic is completely pointless. I guess you could question whether any player is worth that, but even then since it's the going rate for top QBs most teams will gladly pay it vs. having a bad QB.

No here's the real deal when great fortune falls upon your franchise you pay
no other position controls the out come of wins and losses like the QB position.
I don't have to exp[lain that.

Dak is probably making enough in selling chips, dip, soup, and beach property in Kansas....if he has another good season he might have a shot at a Papa John's commercial, but I know that is reaching for the stars.

There's no way that's what he wants.

Is there?

He must have accepted he's a mediocre backup. At best.
