Is David Irving Ready to be our Centerpiece?

I miss football.

My wife is doing some documentation for her job and I am spending my Sunday night rewatching the Buccaneers game. I can't help but ask myself...how good can Irving be?

Would anyone here really be surprised if he puts it all together and takes a massive leap next season? After all, he is only about two weeks older than Dak Prescott and we all expect Dak to improve.

Is it possible Irving could more of an higher impact going into his 3rd season than any free agent pushing 30? I think so...

This isn't an argument for the team not doing anything in free agency this offseason to improve their pass rush. This is an argument that the team may not have to be as aggressive as some people think. If players like Maliek Collins and Irving make a leap next season, they could have a couple cornerstone pieces to build around.

I feel better about Collins becoming a dominant player than David Irving at this point. I do think Irving will continue to improve and can be an excellent role player, but I haven't seen enough to think he will be more than a solid full time starter. However, this is the year for him to step up which will likely be another contract year.

he's got the best opportunity but he needs to stay healthy and seize opportunity in training camp.

He missed most of camp last year with a soft tissue injury and wandered around while Collins seized the starting job.

The Packers thought enough of the kid to double team him on nearly every play.

Let's not forget the monster hold the packers got away with, on David Irving, while Rodgers was scrambling around before the pass to Cook either.

He's not consistent. One game he dominates and then the next game he disappears. I wish I knew why.

A very young player can develop consistency as they grow older. A lot of it depends on his work ethic, the talent is obviously there.

Everyone was real high on him after the Tampa game but he didn't show up in the playoff game against Green Bay and that tempered some of the enthusiasm.

I don't know but agree with the poster that says he needs to be more consistent. I still would like us to be active in FA and try to land a premium DT or DE and definitely draft both positions early.

I'm not fond of going Into the season with mayowa as our best de and Irving having potential.

Absolutely agree, I would much rather we focus on the defensive line instead of the defensive backfield...the rules favour wide receivers, I think it'd be better if we could develop our defensive line into a dominant one and have an average defensive backfield.

You have to show up every game. He's old enough to know that by now.

That's the only chance Dallas has is him and tapper but I'm not counting on either playing until I see it.

Well these are just position's that need bodies for the most part with people leaving. DE needs an upgrade and if church leaves the ss position is downgraded.
