Is ESPN on the verge of cutting ties with NFL analyst Michael Irvin?
One industry source believes the decision has already been made, and that some at the network view the outspoken Irvin as a ticking time bomb, ready to explode into a public-relations nightmare.
ESPN did not confirm or deny the report, but issued a statement, saying: "We are currently in the process of discussing studio assignments for next season."
There is speculation that newly retired Bill Parcells could end up at the network, but there is no indication that a deal is imminent.

First it's Irvin not Irving

Second it would make sense BSPN would get rid of an outspoken analyst

I for one am an Irvin fan. He has really improved that last few years and brings alot of energy to the ESPN Countdown set. It will be ashame if they let him go now. Wouldn't you think they at least want to take advantage of his HOF induction?

Man I am all for this. Irvin, ditka and Young have ruined that show.

I really cant take all their nonsense, any of the three.

Take those guys off the set and jaworski and tom jackson are very good.

Irvin and ditka have created this awful element to that show, screaming and being homers.....Its like watching a contest of who will root for thier former team more...

its awful.

I would enjoy that show if they had a lineup like Berman, jaworski, tom jackson and maybe one more....parcells would be great..

I certainly enjoy seeing "The Playmaker" every Sunday on NFL Countdown. And I have grown to enjoy his antics on the set. I think it would be a shame to let him go. I think he adds a lot of charisma to the show!

I agree with Ditka but Young needs to go also. He has no personality and adds nothing to the show except to give Berman someone to drool over.

I often get the sense that Irvin and Young just don't like each other and there always seems to be this underlying tension; with Irvin having the rings and Young haveing the HOF. Now that Irvin got in, it must be eating away at Young.

I agree, Young really adds nothing of substance. Ditka is at least entertaining as is Irvin but I wouldn't be all that upset if they canned the lot of them.

They really need to focus more on the Monday Night crew though and less on the pregame analysts as that group sucks even worse, particularly Theesman. How he has a job after all these years is a mystery that will confound thinking men for centuries to come. All I can think of is that he has pictures of Berman in drag or something.

Young stinks, Ditka stinks, and even Irvin stinks when the subject matter deals with any of his friends or the Cowboys. Beyond that he is actually pretty good when he is talking football.

As for Tom Jackson, honestly for the most part he is pretty good. He hates the Cowboys and I hate him for it. :shoot3: :shoot1:

I love the energy, personality and charisma Irvin brings to the show; there's a reason he sits in the middle. I'd be deeply disappointed if he were to be let go.

I don't see him as a ticking time-bomb. If anything, the possibility of that has diminished as his maturity has grown. If ESPN is truly concerned, I think they'd want to give him one more year to determine if his HOF status results in a more suitable persona, from their point of view.

For me, I wouldn't ever want to see his edges smoothed any more than life and maturity tends to smooth them.

His love of football and the NFL is infectious, and makes my Sunday mornings all the more enjoyable.

I agree with what you said.

But actually..

I agree more with what you say in your signature.

Pretty funny.

Now we'll all be spitting and seeing if we see little plays drawn or words of wisdom on the reflections of the bubbles to see what we know as fans.

Hey..I just did it..it said" Give the ball to Emmitt".

I must be living with 90's football knowledge. No wonder I'm the way I am.

I think there's an opening to be the color guy for the Dallas Cowboys radio broadcasts with Charlie Waters "retiring"... seems like a great fit for Irvin.
