Is Flo a Lock to make this team?

With the current players on our roster, do you think Flo will be the LT this year. I know a lot of us just assume he will be, but after looking at the numbers and the players we have right now, I am not so sure anymore. Take a look:

The most amount of players you want to keep for a unit is 25, I personally would like to keep 24 per side, but I think we will keep 25 offensive players this year. The break down is like this:

3- QB- No way we sneak Moore onto the PS, so if we want him, he will have to be on the 53 Man roster.

4 RB

6 WR- Might can go 5 here but that would mean getting rid of Hurd, not sure we will do that.

3 TE

That is 16 players,, that leaves 9 spots for OL on this team. We currently have 10 that are realistic to fill those spots.

Gurode, Colombo, Davis, Free, Marten, I feel are safe at this point.

That leaves 4 spots, Mcquiston, project player but seems to have caught the coaches eye, I think he is safe.

That leaves 3 spots: Proctor- the only player that can be a realistic back up center and he plays G.. I think he is safe

2 spots: Kosier, Might be on the block, but I think he gets one more year because of his contract.

1 spot and 2 players, Flo and Berger. Common sense says we pick Flo over Berger any day of the week, right? Well when you factor in that this is, at best, Flo's last year, do we want to give up a promosing player for a player that is only here for 16 more games?

I think that if one of the players on the roster steps it up this TC and shows they can play LT, then Flo might not make this team. I don't know if this team wants to give up on up and coming players for someone that will be here for just this year. Its a long shot, but I wouldn't be surprised if Flo is Cut during TC.

What do you guys think?

IMO Flo is definitely a lock to make the roster...he's in a contract year and knows his chances of coming back to Dallas in 08' are slim to none so he's going to play his butt off this season and he may even make the Pro Bowl b/c he'll be playing for a big contract with another team in 08'

Flo has starting experience I don't see him going any where this season. I do think it will be a battle between the other tackles and would rather watch and see who performs the best instead of making predictions based on nothing right now.

Yes, I think Flo will be back and could possibly have one of his best years as this is his contract year.

After this year, he only has one more significant chance of earning big bucks.

I don't know why you think that Austin will be on the team before Hurd will. Yeah he returned a kick but Hurd actually got some playing time as a WR. We have other players that can return kicks.

Flo to me is a lock. Just because Free and Martin were drafted doesn't mean they are a lock to make the team, they still have to perform, especially since they are rookies. At the moment we have no one that can fill in for Flo and play to his level.

You have to remember that while we are always planning for the future you still have to win now.

"Promising" 6th-round prospects like Berger are a dime-a-dozen, and he's shown absolutely nothing to set himself apart. There's absolutely no reason to cut our starting left tackle and leave a tremendous question mark at the most important position on the line.

You should add Flo and Kosier to the list with the other five starters. No question Flo will be on the team. Kosier has a very reasonable contract and even if he is somehow beat out by one of the other guys, he would be able to back up all positions but Center. At Kosier's salary, he would be almost as valuable to the team in that role as he would be a starter.

I think we can assume Adams is a lock this year. That could only change if 7th rounder McQuistan makes huge strides this year to become a stronger and versitile/athletic OT then Adams. It's possible, but doubtful, that Doug Free could also challenge Adams, but more likely he and Marten need time to develop & also participate in our offseason weight conditioning program next year. What we do know about McQuistan, Free & Marten is that all 3 are very hard workers with a nasty streak and constant motors.

Will be watching/listening for developments at LT on the offchance Adams being really pushed by anyone. He's never faced competition since arriving in Dallas back in 98.

One should never have any rookie as a lock to make the team. first rd picks and usually 2nd rd picks are pretty much- BUT Rogers was a 2nd and Green was a 3rd. Never count them in untill late in TC at best.

Sorry, but I think this topic was a gigantic reach.

With the changes on the offensive staff and the fact that we brought in Davis, resigned Colombo and drafted two OTs, I can see where this might be the least secure Flo's job has been since before he signed his contract extension. Throw in the fact that he's playing for his next contract, and this is easily the biggest fire lit under his butt since he came in the league.

He makes the team.

Unfortunately, somebody will probably get hurt during camp.

Making lists now is a little premature. Injuries in preseason could make all speculation now seem nonsense.

:D

Well it was...

If Rivera isn't out there then Adams becomes the "elder stateman" of the offensive line. We have several promising youngsters on board and I think it's good that Adams will be here. Plus he'll continue schooling some of the young defensive lineman as they learn this new scheme.

If I had to make a list of players that are certain to be on this ballclub in '07 then Adams is on that list...

First thing to remember is that injuries always play a part in decisions.

Second, No one I believe is a lock due to the salary cap now-a-days. If a starter isn't performing far better than the backup then salary will definitely play a decision on who stays and who goes.

Third, other teams and their injuries. No one cares for injuries because it does affect your season but they happen. If other team, for grins, say the Ravens lost Ogden in preseason to a season ending injury then most likely they will see what they have internal to fill the position first, but if it isn't adequate then they will approach another team about a player, i.e. Flozell Adams or even possibly McQuistan.

What Jerry Jones said about players being worth more after the draft in trades is true depending on your own team's state of health and status to the season.

Is Flo a lock? No, I don't believe so. I really believe he will be pushed in training camp by McQuistan and Free. Should he win the job, yes he should. But Flo has always had a way of being a bit lazy and sometimes doesn't work hard on all plays.

We will have to see if having Phillips as a coach will make a difference but I will say that he should be our LT this season although if some team comes up in training camp or near the start of the season and offers more than what the Boys think he is worth and that either Free or McQuistan could do the job just as well or close to it (meaning have coverage with the TE) then I would bet that Jerry would move him.

Unless Adams shows up incredibly out of shape or slaps Phillips in TC, then yeah, I do think he's a lock to make the team.

Also, I really don't know why so many fans are down on Kosier. maybe it's because he replaced legend Larry Allen, but I felt that he played very well last season and his contract is not excessive.

And who says Moore doesn't make it to the PS? Romo did.

I don't understand the Kosier "hate" either. I think he perfomed better and more consistently than anyone else on the o-line.

Me either and Flo will be on the team and starting. Why? Because we don't have anyone else with experience to replace him. Some people get to caught up on a players age.

Austin is going to make this team hands down.. he is a project, yes, but he is such a physical specimen that you have to give him another year to see how he develops.. I hate flo', but he is going to make this team, not doubt in my mind... Our other availible starters at LT are not looking so hot outside of flo. We will look for another LT next offseason.

Flozell could have been such a great guard, he is strong... maybe not though, because of his hieght it would have been prohibitive for a qb to have to throw over his head.
