Is Hardy taking the reduction or going to court?

A decision was going to be made early this week and then we hear nothing. If you are going to court why delay?

I've been wondering the same. I fail to see how he has anything to lose by taking the ruling to court. The only reason I can see him hesitating is that maybe he just wants this to be over with and move on. The longer he waits the more likely he just accepts the 4 games, IMO.

It may not be as cut and dried as we think. We assume that the 4 games are in response to the Domestic Violence issue but that may not be the case. His legal team has to look at the ruling and decide if it's actually something they can win.

True. And if the suspension is for "Conduct detrimental to the league" or whatever it is, and not specifically DV, wouldn't the league have had more leeway in regards to penalty they could give (even under the old rules)?

I'm sure that they probably would have had more room, so to speak. Since we really don't know it's hard to say exactly why the ruling was 4 games but this is all stuff Hardy and his lawyers have to look at and discuss. That might be the reasoning behind why it's taking time. Who knows?

He should probably just take the 4 games. Should give him time to reflect on how lucky he is to have money to buy himself out from under this.

I think he announces today, and I think he just accepts the four games. (I actually think this might have negotiated in the background because I was surprised the league caved this much on their own ruling.)

Possibly. On the other hand, his Lawyers may think he has a case and that he should sue the NFL and Goodell till they turn blue. If that's the case, maybe it should be them who thanks their lucky stars. Who really knows right? I do agree though, it may be in his best interests (depending on circumstances) to just take the 4 games and move on with life.

He's waiting to see what happens with Brady and the contempt ruling as well. The NFL is way outta line blatantly disregarding his human rights.

If he wants to use this year to leverage a long-term deal somewhere, he has to start to change the story. Suing the league just drags this on. What if he gets an injunction then loses in next Feb? Oops, I'm going into free agency with a 4 game ban... And people are still talking about the case

I don't that has anything at all to do with his ability to make money in this league. If he comes out and post 10 or 12 sacks this season, he's going to get paid. I don't think what happens in any further proceedings is going to effect that. The most he will serve is 4 games, regardless. If he happens to go into FA and he still has a four game suspension looming, the worst that will happen is that the Cowboys will pay him a little less money then he might have made with another team but that contract is still going to be very, very lucrative. What happens with these proceedings is going to have little or no effect on his ability to make money if he has another good season.

Isn't that a big part of what a joke the ruling is though? He's charged in a domestic violence incident - which the league had established penalty for. But in an effort to look tough to people on the outside, the league tries to change its' own rules and call it 'conduct detrimental' so they can change the penalty.

Anyone in any legal profession can easily see right through the league's attempted bait and switch on this one. It wouldn't take but 5 minutes to make that decision. And in all honesty, the league doesn't really have a solid case to suspend him at all, given that he ended up missing 15 games last year for a 'crime' he was ultimately not found guilty of.

Personally, if the NFLPA is taking up the legal fees for this fight, I definitely think that Hardy will do it. He stands to gain over $1 million in salary and in my opinion has little to lose. And, given the recent 'collusion' accusations, I think the NFLPA is looking for any fight against the league they can get.

Two of his game checks is a lot of money. I would presume he would do everything he can to get those if the league's ruling is unfair. You don't accept things just because some excessive ruling was declared and it was reduced to make it look like a lot was done, yet it's still greater than what the collective bargaining agreement already established.

That could be the problem. I don't think the NFLPA is looking forward to arguing for a domestic violence abuser in this climate.

I have this feeling the NFL was going to reduce it to 6 or 8 games, and he said he'd appeal if they did. Then they agreed to a 4-game suspension if he didn't appeal.

I can't think of another reason why the NFL would rule against itself by this much.
