Carpenter and Spencer.

Decisions that will haunt us.

Good thing Jones and Jenkins look promising. This year's class looks pretty damn solid.

What's wrong with Spencer now?

As long as we have an ILB that can get deep enough into coverage. I have no interest in going back to watching QBs bloop passes over the ILB and in front of the safeties whenevever they need to convert 3rd and longs again.

You mean other than the injuries, the drunkenness, getting arrested and a lack of production?

Unfortunately, Bobby is too soft to ever make any real contribution to this team.

This is my favorite. People come to this conclusion off of two games. In one he was hurt. In the other, the line was getting blown off the ball preventing him from stepping up to engage the fullback who got a 6 yard head of steam when he hit him.

I invite people to go back and watch tape of his rookie year where he is regularly standing up TEs. Its amazing what he can do when he is healthy and doesnt have his lateral mobility eliminated because he has olinemen in the second level and a FB with a straight shot at him.

Oh and you don't cover kicks and punts well if you're soft.

Exactly, and Carp stunk in kick coverage. What team were you watching this season? Our STs, especially the coverage units, were among the worst I have ever seen for any team ever.

If Carp goes to the Bucs or Bears, he becomes a good player. This sytem aint a good fit for him.

Yeah he was second on the team in tackles because he sucked. He just did that by magic.

We were terrible because a lot of the younger guys weren't staying in their lane and were overpursuing once they got to the ball. Carpenter wasn't one of those.

Also he had every right in the world to complain. He was never offered a chance to compete and was relegated to ST. Did he? No, he didn't and to me that speaks a lot about his character. Team guy.

I didn't know players weren't allowed to get injured. The only gripe against Spencer is really his arrest, and I was hard on him for that, but that doesn't put him in bust category where Bobby currently resides.

I though Spencer did well against the run making a few nice plays in the backfiled and holding the point of attack. He came out on passing downs but generally looked good the few chances he got in that department.

I don't know what his stats were but I thought he did well all things considered.

If Bobby hasnt seen the field in 3 years, theres a reason for that. If he was really a good player he would have been playing by now. I dont want a soft ILB playing for my team. I want to feel confident that there is no weak link out there. He probably isnt suited for a 3-4, so why not trade him to a team with a 4-3 that wants to take a chance on him..

My favorite is that there are still Carpenter apologists. There is nothing "amazing" about what he can do when he's healthy and he is, by no means, a force on special teams. The kid just isn't a very good player in the NFL.

I've been as critical of Bobby as anyone, but I've also acknowledged that he needs to see extended playing time to see what he can do.

Personally, I'd like to see him get a chance to take Zach Thomas' spot at #2 ILB. I'd say draft an ILB but go into the year like Bobby is going to start, give him every chance to win the job.

I'm not ready to give up on Barbie just yet.

if he can do like the playoff game against the seahawks then we're good....give him a chance...LET'S GO Bobby!!!

spencer is the most dissapointing player of the season for me.

Much like hatcher he doesnt seem to play to his abilities.

and to think we traded three picks to move back up and get him makes it even worse.

Yep.

Its even more disappointing when you see someone like Woodley blossom this year. Coulda had him.

Or someone like Demeco Ryans inside next to Bradie instead of Bobby.

That'd a been a helluva LB core.

Oh well. Can't hit a homerun every time.

Fortunately, it looks like we hit solidly with Jenkins and Scandrick at CB; Jones and Choice at RB, and Bennett this year.

I never said he was lighting the world on fire. he wasn't. I do think he held his own and those sacks don't surprise me seeing that he was taken out on nickel downs.
