I never said he was lighting the world on fire. he wasn't. I do think he held his own and those sacks don't surprise me seeing that he was taken out on nickel downs.

I know you didn't say he was lighting the world on fire.

You said you didn't know his stats. I was just giving them.

That's all.

My favorite is that there are still Carpenter apologists. There is nothing "amazing" about what he can do when he's healthy and he is, by no means, a force on special teams. The kid just isn't a very good player in the NFL.

My favorite is that there are fans out there that actively hope that a Cowboys player fails so they can look to be right.

You don't even address my points, you just try to extend the old blather whatever. I took this same crap about Miles last offseason so whatever.

Well you weren't "just giving them", but anyway.

Personally, I'd like to see these guys succeed as Cowboys. If he gets a fair shot at the job (lets face it, he never had a chance against Zach or Akin to play ILB, and he's not physical enough to play olb in our defense).

I fully understand why people get on Bobby, but I don't know how people are considering Spencer a bust now though, that makes zero sense.

Yep.

Its even more disappointing when you see someone like Woodley blossom this year. Coulda had him.

Or someone like Demeco Ryans inside next to Bradie instead of Bobby.

That'd a been a helluva LB core.

Oh well. Can't hit a homerun every time.

Fortunately, it looks like we hit solidly with Jenkins and Scandrick at CB; Jones and Choice at RB, and Bennett this year.

I'd settle for at least an at-bat. Bobby can't get off the bench.

I did address your points. You said the things he could do when healthy was amazing, I said it wasn't. You said he was good at special teams, I said he was nothing special. And how did you come to the conclusion that I want the guy to fail? I wanted us to draft Bobby, I thought he would be a good player, he hasn't been. I would love for that original opinion to be proven right, but there is very little evidence to suggest that it will.

And Miles? He still hasn't proven anything more than what we already knew, he has potential.

Besides, you already said what your "favorite" was in the other post, you can't say it again in this one. :p:

The negativity around here is at an all time high. People will stretch anything to its most negative form.

no one is considering him a bust.

he seems to be just like jason hatcher to me. All the talent and size and no results. he is young, they both are, hopefully they get better.

its just that he is a first round pick that we traded three picks to get and he had 1.5 sacks and he was arrested which is the big no no.

he has alot of making up to do.

amazing was hyperbole I admit. That being said he was our best player on D not named Demarcus that playoff game in Seattle.

He may not be 'special' at ST but he certainly quite good ati. Finishing second in ST after missing 4 games is no mean feat. But really what I appreciate about it is he doesn't whine and moan and just plays hard. I like that.

I also don't buy a guy that will run full speed into a wedge on KO returns is soft. I know your not the one saying that but to me thats just silly.

Some guys are "late bloomers". It's not uncommon in the NFL for guys to come out of college, early and late picks, and take 2-3 years to adjust and "get it". Particularly on the Defensive side of the ball. The Pro Game moves a little to quick for some young guys, no matter what their collegiate pedigree.

Everyones learning curve is different. Give the kid a chance............

ONLY if he earns it in camp, against legit competition..................then I'd have no problem with Carpenter getting his shot. The LAST thing I want to hear is him getting cut, and becoming an All Pro somewhere else because Dallas gave up on a first round pick too early.............

I don't think he will start because I think we will draft a real mean physicl linebacker to take over for zach thomas.

I've been as critical of Bobby as anyone, but I've also acknowledged that he needs to see extended playing time to see what he can do.

Personally, I'd like to see him get a chance to take Zach Thomas' spot at #2 ILB. I'd say draft an ILB but go into the year like Bobby is going to start, give him every chance to win the job.

I'm not ready to give up on Barbie just yet.

He should get a shot at competing for the job. I think players can use the off-season to develop. I do think at this stage time is running out on Carpenter but if he remains on the team he should get the chance to compete

Bobby is probably a bust. To date, he certainly has been.

But players like James Harrison and James Farrior took several years to develop. Its very unlikely Bobby is in that mold... but I wouldn't mind giving him another year to see if he can do something.

Then cut him if he fails his "open shot."

I won't deny that Carpenter had a great game in Seattle. However, a good game isn't necessarily (god, I never spell that right the first time) indicative of a good player.

We'll have to disagree about ST play though because I have seen him shy away from contact a number of times when covering kicks. Maybe it's wrong to call Carp "soft" (I mean, I'm sure he's tougher than me) but I don't think that he has the toughness to be a consistent contributor at LB in the NFL.

I think the team felt he showed enough in training camp and preseason to deserve a chance, but Dallas had brought in Zach and Carp obviously wasn't better than Zach.

From what I saw, he showed some ability to get in on plays downfield and some ability in coverage but still isn't physical enough in taking on and shedding blockers and making plays at or behind the line of scrimmage. He does it some, but not very often.

Still, I think his mentality could improve with actual playing time, but I definitely want Dallas to at least bring in someone capable of starting to compete for the role. Even if Dallas re-signs Burnett, which is unlikely, the Cowboys will need to add at least one ILB.

While Carp should obviously be given a chance to start this TC/pre-season, my best guess is that he isn't going to start in Wade 34 defense.

In fact, I'm not even sure Carp makes the 53 man roster.

I think we could easily be looking for 2-3 ILBs this year.

I doubt the Cowboys give Burnett a big contract, and he may want to test FA first. (Then there's JJ saying maybe they play R Williams as the nickel LB, or something like that.) Then, if Carp doesn't really show a LOT this year, he could be gone. Finally, Z Thomas may want to come back, and even so, how much does he have left in the tank?

If I were the Cowboys, I would seriously consider bringing in an ILB via FA who fits Wade's scheme. And then, I would draft at least 1 ILB, if not 2.
