1 FS and 1 SS in the draft?

The way I see it, it's no lock that Hamlin will be re-signed. If not, we need a starting calibre FS next season. Maybe Watkins/Brown is that guy. But IF not, it may not be a bad idea to draft the successor to Hamlin this year.

Also, we may need some depth at SS now that KD is gone. This could be late draft pick.

Finally, I think we need at least 1 top quality CB from this draft, regardless of whether we sign PacMan or not. TNew may not be extended end of this season, and we don't know if PacMan will be reliable enough (assuming we sign him).

Now, if we do end up signing PacMan, maybe we only take 1 CB (hopefully early in the draft). But if we DON'T sign PacMan, I'd seriously consider taking 2 CBs this draft.

We would still have the draft picks to pick up a WR, RB, plus 2 additional draft picks to fill other needs/wants.

Well, we need SS depth for sure.

We could use 2 CBs given that TNew could not be re-signed plus we need a nickel CB asap (either both via draft, or maybe draft plus PacMan)

and we may need a FS assuming JJ isn't going to pay Hamlin G Wilson numbers.

Ideally, if we could get a player who could play both CB and FS well, that would be great.

Funny how much of a difference a year can make. Heading into the start of last season, I thought we were set at CB1, SS for the future and thought FS was still questionable long term with Hamlin and Henry for the time being a good 2nd CB (but needing a 2nd CB for the near future).

Now, our entire secondary could be in transition in the next couple of years. Roy need to play better. Hamlin could be too expensive. Newman could be too expensive to keep. And Henry continues to suffer injuries and isn't getting younger either.

Yeah, for the FS. We aren't keeping 4 FSs. Someone would be cut (Watkins, Brown, draft pick).

It's not progress to replace backups with rookie backups.

It'd be so cap lovely to have a 5th or 7th round starting free safety. Not much signing bonus and low salary. I don't care if they suck, it's better to lose Hamlin than Newman.

I know, depends who we are able to re-sign of our FAs next year. I doubt we can re-sign Colombo, Hamlin, Newman, Ware (though he ok for 2 yrs), plus guys like MBIII, Canty, and Spears.

And I'm probably forgetting a few other players.

I think Ware, MBIII, and Canty are locks. I think odds are Spears is gone. Maybe Colombo gone as well. That leaves Newman and Hamlin as ? for me.

But after letting 3 guys in our secondary go this off-season - even though they weren't particularly good - I'd figure we've got to get at least those 3 positions filled this off-season.

Plus, we need some insurance in case TNew is gone after this season as well.

yes thats overkill

No, up to 4 picks of 8. :)

Depending if we sign PacMan or not. Then 3 picks.

I can't see us getting all 4 of those DB positions, but I can see 3 of the 4 with 2 CBs. I can even see passing on Safety altogether and getting 3 CBs.

I don't see us drafting a FS in the draft. I COULD see us POSSIBLY drafting 3 CB's and a FS, if at least 2 of those picks were drafted in the 5th - 7th rounds. But, I would think we would sooner draft 2 CB's and 1 SS.

I'd say we would definitely get 3 positions, either through the draft or a combo of the draft and FA. The reason being simply to replace the 3 guys we let go.

It would be ideal if of the 3 potential DBs we may pick up in the draft, if at least 1 had the versatility to play both CB and FS. That could also save us a roster spot.

I think one guy who may have the versatility is Talib, from what I've read.

But the way I feel right now, I think we need some back-up at SS, and I do think we need at least 2 CBs to replace and upgrade the guys who left.

And then I guess the big question is whether JJ lets go either both and/or Hamlin and TNew in early 2009 to be able to re-sign guys like Ware, Canty, MBIII, etc.

Where do we have the least young talent?

Where do we have the most open positions?

Outside of QB what is the most exposed and expensive position?

Maybe LT, but you only need one LT, you need three good CB's, and you better have a 4th that is avg.

How many CB's do we have on our roster that you think we can depend on? While I won't call Henry injury prone, I will say his play is very effected by his health and he does get nicked up often.

I think we have to get two viable CB's out of this draft.. and if you have a situation where you have equal grade projects accross the board I wouldn't be shocked to see a 3rd DB taken.

Not really it is pro-bowl starters that price themselves out of the market. Better to bring in possible replacements at least a year before they will e needed to be starters.

I'm confident in Hamlin's ability to move to SS in the event of an injury to Roy, I'd rather have a guy that could challenge stretch (Watkins), and log some time at CB, the game seems to be changing.

We don't know what they think of Ball and Brown, but I won't be confident if we are depending on these guys going into TC.

Nah Woods... I don't see 2 corners and 2 safeties being drafted. Maybe 2 corners and 1 safety.

we have no 3 and 4 CB, yeah, we have Ball and Ogelsby, but who are we kidding? they are fringe players at best

no backup SS to speak of

got some age at the corners

it's not overkill at all

this safety class is weak, so we can afford to wait to sign a UFA there, but 2 corners in the draft isn't far-fetched at all

I think its a very good idea since we lost 2 cb's to free agency.

If our first three picks went like that I'd turn the TV off and touch myself for a few hours I'd be so happy.
