Nobody ever questioned Troy's leadership skills, even after his physical skills declined and the league moved away from the pure pocket passer. The only time there was ever any controversy about Troy was that BS rumour about him being a racist and Irvin destroyed that in about ten seconds.
Polarizing isn't the right word.........it would be the most "Scrutinized".

And the answer to your question is a resounding NO......quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys will be the most scrutinized position in all of sports, deserved or not.

The concept of polarization is fine. But the OP's definition is too broad. Romo is polarizing. Aikman not really, even if there were some grumbling towards the end of his career. This just proves my point though. Cowboys Qb is not Always polarizing.theend

You mean after we started to suck? Sucking will do that to you.

In 1998 we were 10-6 and went to the playoffs.

Idiots think that means Troy sucked and should be booed during the offseason.

Even after the guy ruined his back and got multiple concussions winning 3 Super Bowls.

Every QB in the Modern age for the Dallas Cowboys is polarizing ...... but only because of our ****** fan base that do not know enough about Football to see the reasons behind the failures.

Cowboys fans have always booed the started and yelled for the back up anytime there was the least bit of adversity for the team...all were booed at one time or another...from Lebaron to Romo, all have felt the wrath of Cowboys fans (Morton vs. Staubach, White vs. Hogeboom, etc.)...comes with the job...

Why do you think this is a Dallas only issue? Every city where they dont win, the starting QB and HC are polarizing figures.

I've come to the conclusion that there's really only one possible way for a Cowboys QB to NOT be a polarizing figure, and that is to play so poorly that he is disliked by both nearly all Cowboys fans and non-Cowboys fans alike.

If the Cowboys starting QB plays superbly (i.e., Aikman, Staubach, etc.)................then he will still be very polarizing, because success often breeds its own form of dislike. Tom Brady, for instance, is very disliked by numerous NFL fans often precisely because of his success as a QB (often at the expense of the teams that these other non-Patriot fans root for.) The 1990s Cowboys were very much disliked by numerous NFL fans precisely because they were an excellent team. Cowboys fans would obviously like such a QB, but non-Cowboys fans wouldn't, so.......he'd be a polarizing figure.

If the Cowboys starting QB is good to mediocre (Romo, White, etc.)............then he will be polarizing in a different way. He will still be disliked just because he quarterbacks one of the most polarizing and popular teams in the NFL (the Cowboys,) but there will be a deep split among Cowboys fans as to whether he's really a good QB or not (just check out the hundreds of Romo threads here.)

If the Cowboys starting QB plays terribly.............well, there's not much to be polarized about. Many non-Cowboys fans will dislike him because, as always, simply because he plays for the Cowboys. Cowboys fans will also dislike him because he plays terribly. Most NFL fans, Cowboys fans or not, will be in agreement - he's a terrible QB!

So what you are saying is..

Quincy Carter was a unifier guy and Drew Bredsoe was the real answer?

Parcells blew the QB position up in Dallas..

Installed Romo..

then left.

Shouldn't you address these questions to Parcells care of Canton Ohio?

Jon Kitna wasn't a polarizing figure, neither was Bledsoe or Testaverde.

If our QB is a perceived "superstar" then yeah, he's going to be a polarizing figure. If our QB isn't the focal point of our offense, then no...he probably won't be.

Romo was thrust into the spotlight and stardom in such rapid form that there was no way he wasn't going to be polarizng, especially with the train of bad QBs that preceded him. Romo was looked at as the savior of this team, and that is why he's polarizing.

He's made out to be better than he actually is (he's a good QB) but it's perceived by this team that he is the only thing keeping this team together and that we cannot win without him.

I don't think Romo was polarizng until he became a celebrity.

Troy became a sitting duck statue in the pocket towards the end of his career. He was clearly in decline. Does that mean he should have been booed? No. But there was no controversy about Troy's abilities or leadership during the height of his career. By contrast, Romo has been polarizing since the bobbled snap.

I don't remember Aikman & Staubach being disliked. I know that they weren't by Cowboy fans. Even though there were many that disliked the Cowboys, I think it was more as a team and not the QB. I do agree with your other points because White and Romo did divide fans and I remember Chad and Quincy did as well even though both were pretty bad.

Winning SB's and not winning SB's has more to do with the division than anything else.

Selective memory...especially with Staubach. Not that he deserved it

If another aspect/player is so dominant that it or he demands the attention.. (85 bears D, barry sanders, etc..) than possibly
yes.

But that hasn't happened yet in Dallas, so it's just a theory.

The media hadn't quite yet become the TMZ, click-happy, blogosphere style circus that it is today in the 1990s and 1970s. Definitely not in the 1970s, either. You had to actually write compelling articles because people actually read the newspaper (or read at all) in those days.

These days everything is 24 hour news cycle, report it fast and first, get the clicks, get the ad revenue, cater to the knuckle-draggers. It's a different era now.

The franchise is polarizing, so by inference it's imposable for the main player not to be polarizing.
