Is it time for a NFL spring 7-on-7 league?

Like in Texas HS football where there is a state championship. The best HS teams and talent, a refereed flag football league.

Since there's no NFL Europe, I would love some kind of interest in "real" football in Feb., March, April, May, June, with names on NFL rosters ... Cowboys vs. Giants in Central Park ...

But instead of the big boys playing - there would be position players seeing what they've got in the way of passing, routes, covering, a fearsome (practice squad) DE shouting "one one thousand two one thousand" inspiring the fear of god, then making a QB nightmare rush to pull Tony's or Stephen McGee's flag out ...

With probably marginal NFL receivers, malingerers on the end of the roster and DBs (like the on Spike Michael Irvin show, at best the Sam Hurd/Stanback/Ball/Courtney Brown and practice squad talent) .... championship maybe ending by the start of minicamp?

Since it's non-contact, maybe Style, Oxygen, MSNBC, or HGTV will pick it up ...

Yeah my Richland Rebels from North Richland Hills texas won the national 7 on 7 drills.

I love the idea.

If a high school player tears an ACL in drills tough luck, hope he recovers soon...

But if a pro player does, you have a media nightmare and lose a valuable and expensive player.

No thanks.

Not by the way he layed it out. None of the stars would be playing in this thing. THis would be training camp fodder and JAGs getting in extra route running, covering, and conditioning to try and show what they can do to some degree. No one worth anything would be playing in this thing, by the way the OP outlined this idea.

Good idea. It'd be like the NBA's summer league for rookies and sophomores and camp invitees. It'd be fun to watch and I'm sure you'd garner plenty of interest from sports fans - it would expose them to the guys that are out there slugging it out trying to make the 53-man roster.

Did he just say Oxygen? lol.

And I think the players like their time off in the Spring.

If you don't think players train during the offseason, play other sports, do other activities that would cause a serious injury, you're living in candy land.
