Is it wise to give Dez a contract?

You want that attitude and fire playing every game. You love that he has improved every year both on and off the field.

However it is hard to ignore the troubles we have had on Defense, Romo moving towards the end of his career and the problem that Dez does play hard and has had back issues the last few years even if it is just back spasms at this time.

Not worth the price

I would trade him if possible

Problem is that our GM will only turn around and waste those picks

Don't foregt about our TE. Our appoach is not to have a passing game only throu WRs.

So our possession Receivers to me are: Beasley, Witten and Escobar.
Lose Dez and all of a sudden Beasley gets a lot more attention. Esco hasn't really been given the chance to prove himself and Witten is on the downside, like it or not.

I would do some fishing on the trade wire. Obviously Dez wants huge dollars, if it was close to realistic, it would be a done deal now. Besides, I like some of the young guys.

I think Dallas will get a deal worked out with Dez and I think it is the right thing to do. He is a highly talented player and it you expect to keep highly talented player you do as everyone else does and that is pay the man his money. I guess Dallas could go bargin basement the cheap rout and just get rid of players as they enter their 2nd contract, myself I would rather try to keep talent

Honestly, I say no. Love the player. Think he's a star and literally the only one we have. But I don't want to gamble on a long career with him. Especially considering our history with these contracts.

Basically, whatever Jerry wants to do--i hope we do the opposite

Hard to think of Dez leaving, however, it's also hard to improve the defense if Romo, Tyron Smith, and Dez Bryant eat up 1/3 of the entire cap.

You don't break the bank for WRs. I love Dez, as he's currently my favorite Cowboy, but he's not worth the $12m-$14m he's ostensibly asking for. WRs are replaceable, and having a stud like Dez is not required to win a SB or contend for one. If they can get a 1st and whatever for him, they should do it, as this team needs all the top100 picks they can acquire.

That being said, there's little doubt in my mind that JJ will sign Dez to a ridiculous contract as JJ cares more about selling #88 jerseys, and the marketable legacy of #88, than he does putting out a winning football team.

How about we pay the guy who is passionate about winning and wants to be here... or should we sit around and hope that Jerry works some magic in the draft with those picks? If you get two first rounders for Dez, you still will have to use one to draft another receiver to take his place. Williams, Harris and Beasley are nice complementary pieces, but they won't look anywhere near the same if they start getting increased focus due to Dez being gone.

Does anyone really believe Terrance Williams will look like what he does now if he's drawing double coverage and the number 1 corner to boot? If Dez leaves, we'll go right back to the red zone nightmare we had prior. The problem with this organization is that we're always chasing some ghost. We saw the Patriots having success so we need to emulate them offensively. Now we see Seattle winning and all of a sudden we need to turn into a defensive juggernaut.

I have a much different approach. To me the question is not if the player is a good one and deserves to be paid like the other top players.
To me the question is how much does it effect my football team to have a player like him compared to the investement i made in him. Again: regardless of position or the players ability.

In the years i followed the NFL and decissions by GMs/trainers etc. my conclusion is: You dont pay big bucks to any player. You did that in the times before the CBA and everything. But it is not the way to win in the NFL these days.

There are position you can argue: Passrusher, OLT, QB. Everything else imo is out of question. You dont need a franchise WR, TE or RB to win in this league.

Having alot of good starters and solid backups is much more valuable then having 2-3 franchise players. Because for the later you sacrifice too much else.

That does not work if you have the wrong draft strategy (our main problem imo).

In the end i would try to trade Dez or let him walk at the end of his rookie contract if he is not willing to accept a mid range contract (which he def. will not). I'd build my receving corps throu the draft and solid-2-good FAs who are in the age to get their second contract.

So short answer: No. And it has nothing to do with how good Dez is.

The move was to trade him this past offseason for multiple high draft picks

and what did the seahawks pay out to Percy Harvin? 6 year / $64.25 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks, including a $12,000,000 signing bonus, $14,500,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $10,707,500.

Wow, one game and everyone is already on the trade Dez for picks train? Dez isn't and shouldn't go anywhere, he is our most talented player by FAR. Not to mention, anyone watching the game yesterday would notice that when we were down 14-3 he was on the sidelines trying to fire up the team, his passion for the game and talent are not found in one player often, you don't let someone like that go. He will die to win. That's what this team needs. The mediocrity has already settled in on witten and romo we need a player there to fire them up too. Not only would I re-sign him, I would slap a C on his chest and let him lead the offense in the huddle.

You dont need a franchise WR, TE or RB to win in this league..

My thoughts exactly. Has MegaTron brought Detroit a ring? Where is Randy Moss's ring?

This league is too competitive to put all of your eggs in a few baskets.

IMO, if T Williams has another solid year, I would extend him next offseason. Evaluate Street after next year also. Those two should be our future #1 and #2. Throw Cole in there, plus a slick TE, and those two WR's look that much better
