A report saying that former Cowboys and Dolphins coach Jimmy Johnson will be joining the Lions as a consultant is intriguing enough. But is it true enough? "I don't even know what you're talking about," president Matt Millen said.
-- Oakland Press

Is Jimmy Johnson hyping up the media looking for hugh payday..I no Jimmy said on Fox that he wont coach again, I don't think Fox pays as much as the TOP paid coach in all of the NFL or GM...Maybe he's looking at Millians job as GM in Detroit.....sure like to see Jimmy back in Dallas were he belongs..

My new years resoultion:
New Coach of the Cowboys Jimmy Johnson
New Defensive Coordinator: Don Capers

I'll still like Bill but something is not right with him as coach.......!

I don't know what he makes, but I know if Madden were to leave broadcasting for coaching he would take a "hugh" paycut, for what it's worth. I know Jimmy doesn't make that kind of money, and I know Madden probably isn't coherent enough to tie his own shoes anymore, but just using him as an example.

Madden is on another level than anyone else as far as pay scale for broadcasting. Also, he makes most of his enormous $$ income from "Madden 2005".

If the opportunity to replace Parcells with Jimmy presented itself, I'd definitely be in favor of it.

See my question is would Jimmy change the defense and stick with some of the "Bill Parcells Guys" on the roster.

If not, that would be a major overhaul and/or he would be playing with players that arent his type.

This would never happen, but it would be GREAT if we could have Jimmy and Parcells on the payroll.

Well, Madden's second contract with Fox averaged out to 8 million a year, so that's better than any coach could sniff even in today's dollars. So his broadcasting contract is amazing- I'm sure he makes much more than that with ABC/ESPN. Then when you add in the video game, the dude has a fortune.

A perfect world:

G.M. - Bill Parcells
Head coach - Jimmy Johnson

Yikes......I love both guys, but there is no way JJ would accept this kind of arrangement.

Talk about big ego's....these 2 could not work together.

Heh heh, very true. But like I said, it'd have to be a perfect world for that to happen.

Hire Jimmy and let Jerry do the grocery shopping. However Jimmy would have to always give him a grocery list. Jerry is very good at getting players signed he just needs to tell him who to go after. I have to say I would rather have Jimmy doing it than Bill. I believe Jimmy would not go after over the hill veterans or bring in people just because he coached them before.

I seem to remember Jimmy giving Jerry a huge compliment not very long ago on his Fox segment. He said Jerry is the one GM he'd like to work for because he has deep pockets and he's not afraid to spend money. Which is true.

I don't think Jimmy will come back but I do think if he did Jerry would handle him differently. He's basically let Bill run the team the way he wants. I think he'd let Jimmy do the same.

Jimmy loves his boat. Jimmy also seems to enjoy his FOX gig where there are no 18-hour days. I'm convinced his coaching days are well behind him.

Johnson stated on his Fox Sunday show that he is 100% positive he would not return to coaching or GM an NFL team. He said his last job was on Fox with Bradshaw and the boys and that was it.

Id take Jimmah at his word, that he means it when he says flatly that he wont take another coaching job, anywhere. IMO, I dont think he wants to take on the rigors and stress of coaching/rebuilding an NFL team at this stage of his life. Miami may have been his swan song, ironically enough.

I would like to live on a boat in Florida and only work a few months each year. Jimmy is enjoying the good life. He has nothing left to prove.

I don't know. Remember Jimmy's book "Turning the Thing Around" ? Parcells was Jimmy's closest coaching confidante outside of his own staff during the first two or three seasons in Dallas. Jimmy speaks extensively in that book of Parcells and him meeting several times to discuss all of the ins and outs of coaching, and how much respect he has for him.

I did not know that. Although I still this arrangement as odd. Where does that leave the ever interested Jerry?
