Is Jones Capable of being a good Corner?

I just don't get this. He was obliterated by Jordan Reed for what 83 catches and 738 yards? He had a couple of decent games against TEs but he has not been a good safety. The only thing he hasn't done is commit a bonehead play. I swear we've become so used to poor play that when someone is mediocre they are suddenly "good".

No he wasn't Most of those came against Carr, Church and Mo's backup (whoever that was). Why isn't Jones a good safety? Before every QB in the league would chuck it up hail mary style against our D and would either be completed or there was a pass interference. That has all stopped since Jones has been our safety.

I love when i read other teams game threads. They all talk about how much they wish they had Byron Jones as their safety. Then come here and hes a jag according to some. Give him one more year before we all turn on him. Looks like hes going to have a solid Dline this year. Also hes only been at Safety for 1 season. His 1st year he was moved all over the defensive backfield.

Its good question because I don't see Awuzie or Lewis as outside CB. That means Jones almost has to be CB. Physically he can do it but I am not entirely convinced he has mental makeup for position.

Two of the top cover corners in the country. Jourdan may play the slot but Chidobe can & will play outside.

Janoris Jenkins is 200 lb guy who is very physical at CB. Lewis is about 175 lbs and not nearly as physical. That just isn't his game. Lewis actually isn't that fast either. He is more quick than fast with elite coverage skills. I haven't seen one scout who thought he is outside CB - almost all see him as perfect fit for slot.

Awuzie greatest attribute is his versatility. As I mentioned he even played some LB in college. Do I think he could play outside CB? Yes but I don't think he would be great there and would diminish what he does best and that's being sure tackler, physical with some intimidation. Look I know everyone wants RDE & outside Corner from this draft but I don't think they got either. I do think they got tough players who love football and will make Dallas better team.

Awuzie's greatest attribute is his coverage skills. Putting him at corner would not diminish him because he's a great tackler. Your statement is not well thought out, he's a cover guy first.

No they put him at S because he wasnt very good at CB. And the team has said numerous times since being moved to FS thats his posistion.

And having discussion is fine, but atleast be in the ballpark if what this team is trying to do. This team isnt trying to find a replacement FS, period.

Jones does play FS. Talk about being in the ballpark?

Honestly, I don't have faith in Jones being a capable corner OR safety. He has no ball awareness or football instincts.

He's a freak athlete, which allows him to be on the field - but for whatever reason, I'm quite unimpressed with him as a football player.

I am unimpressed as well. He is a very average and unexciting player so far.
