Is M. Collins who we thought he would be

They are playing Collins at the 1 tech. It's not his best position.

Yet another example of dumb player personnel decisions biting us in the butt. They went cheap at the 1 Tech and now are paying for it.

We always seem to go cheap there. One of my biggest beefs with our defense.

We got beat by the same trap block all game and it was mainly Irving........ Hitchens, Durant and JSmith got swallowed by Philly's OL..... the coaches never adjusted....... they never do

I swear we have the most falsely confident coaches in the league.

You can't help but notice Marinelli's attacking calls up front being taken advantage of. Irving was getting trapped all night long. Heck, sometimes they just let him charge up the field out of the play. They've figured out Rod's tricks up front and they're using them against him.
Problem is its not apparent rod ever changes things up on the front 4. Just to mix it up there should be times they simply tie up blockers ...is convrntional just so they cannot be predictably trap blocked. Has to keep things unpredictable especially in a run situation/game

Irving is a natural DE based on body type and build. He is out of position and is likely to get abused in the run game. He has a habit of disappearing at times, but can take over a game when he wants to.

IMO, we should be happy for anything he does, pressure wise. He is another one of our bargain basement players on D we needed because JJ can’t draft well on a consistent basis.

I would wager that a top tier wide bodied fire plug picking up 25-35 snaps at the 1 would make Collins and company look a lot better. I don't think we'll see any changes with the defense as long as Rod is in Dallas unfortunately.

Cowboys have given up big rushing days this season. I believe that starts up front and not with Sean Lee.

Rams, Eagles, Pack all approached two hundred yards rushing on the Cowboys and the Broncos were over a 150.(with Sean Lee)

Cowboys only allowed ONE team to rush for over hundred last season and that was in the throwaway finale.

They make a mistake in thinking Collins could handle the tackle duties?

He's not a 1 tech. We need a true 1 Tech.

Been saying this since the start of the season. He doesn't impress me. He's only good at a few things and is miserable at a lot of other things. Never got the hype. I'd be willing to keep him around for another year and see if he develops, but thus far he is...at best...JAG.

a JAG

actually, if you were to believe PFF, he is not even a JAG

maybe he can be decent with a big fat 1T next to him but right now, it is what it is

Collins slammed Wentz to the turf when Dlaw hit his head with his knee early on. The problem is our LB's suck and get blocked behind them, at least last night.

Collins hasn't been great. But last night the Eagles pulled and trapped David Irving to death.

How many times did Irving fire high off the snap and fall on his face on running plays last night? It was ridiculous that the Cowboys did not adjust.

This defensive scheme is flawed against the run. It relies on smart, stout and physically superior players in order to maintain success over an extended period of time.

The line is instructed to slant and hit a designated gap based on offensive alignment. Each player picks a side of the offensive lineman in front of them to run through and they do with reckless abandon. The LBs do the same, pretty much. They each have a hole to fill and if there is a lineman in the hole when they get there, they have to stack and shed AND most importantly, stay in that hole. They make the play if it’s there to make. If not, they eliminate the cut back for the ball carrier.

Ideally, there is nowhere for the ball carrier to go because there is a defender in every gap. That’s only if the linemen upfront win their battles and the LBs stay clean.

It heavily relies on winning individual battles and/or having a crazy amount of hustle on each play. That’s why we see so many substitutions on long drives.

With all that said, it’s not too hard to see why Rod Marinelli was available.

The defense is antiquated. The caliber of players you need for this defense to succeed are too expensive if you want to have a capable offense. The bulk of our salary cap is distributed amongst the offensive players so this whole system is just a bad idea for Big D.

Sean Lee on the field reading plays presnap like a 2017 Tony Romo is a great deodorant for this coaching staff. When he’s out this defense shows the flaws it’s supposed to show.

We need new coaches on both sides of the ball.

Sorry for the long post...

He's not a 1-tech. We need a big-bodied 1-tech next to him and Irving and Lawrence on the edges. That would be a very big D-line.

Just another overhyped Cowboy player. Jerry and his coaches sell **** like this all the time.

Decent player, 3rd round pick, nothing more nothing less.

I understand your judgment towards him.

However, there are two things to consider:

1.) The Front Office failed to draft and signed a decent Nose Tackle. Always a year behind on these types of situations which has hurt Collin’s development in my opinion.

2.) Coaching is not that great, cannot make adjustments correctly, no concept of X’s & O’s, and have no clue to teach basic fundamentals. Case-in-point look at the Patriots. That team started out badly on defense this season and later lost a key defender for the year and made proper adjustments and are improving. But our coaches fail at that.

Don't be sorry....... that was one of the best explanations of Marinelli's D and its terminal faults

Bravo........... and may your 1000th post be a masculine one

Everyone and their uncle had known this for years except our FO and our D.C.

Supposedly he needs a space eater next to him. That's why they went out and signed the great Stephen Paea last offseason, haven't heard a whole lot from him though..oh that's right he's not even on the team.
Rod doesn’t value 1 tech. How about we just fire that idiot. Who cares what he values? He’s never been in charge of a legit defense. He was under Lovie Smith not the other way around. We saw his defenses in Detroit. ******* loser. Draft Da’Ron Payne and stop playing with the 1 tech position. Philly has two beasts at dt. Rod would’ve snubbed his nose at Jurnigan. Idiot!
