Is Martin really the best guard?

It's unfortunate timing. There are OLinemen projected as 5th rounders that I would be surprised to see start as rookies. On DL, I have a hard time finding players that are overly impressive after the 1st round. There are several that can probably contribute in a rotation, but I don't really see rookie starters.

I think you screwed up....don't you mean you wouldn't be surprised to see some 5th round OL starting?

I just wouldn't draft somebody simply because of versatility. Heck, Bernadeau is our most versatile lineman but he's far from our best.

That being said, it seems like Martin might be the most technically sound lineman in the draft but his size would put him at a disadvantage to most tackles in the league. Whereas guys like Robinson, Matthews and Lewan are just physical freaks.

Liking the depth at DT in the later rounds.

There are several guys with upside in the later rounds, but the middle rounds don't look good in terms of immediate starters, IMO unless maybe Quarles fall to the 3rd.

Which specific players do you like in the later rounds?

X is there anyone we could draft that would start at guard but be capable of playing tackle. This could be 1st, 2nd round, or beyond.

I'm overreacting to our loss to Minn when Adams and Colombo were both hurt. Colombo did continue playing while hurt.

The Cowboys keep 7 on the game day roster from the OL.

Leary and Free would be the two replacement guards.

The new guy and Parnell would be the replacement tackles.

Bern is the 2nd center.

Have we lost more than two offensive linemen in one game?

While I'm annoying you, do you have a short list of first round players we would draft if they were there at 16?

I'm not sold on Martin at 16. I think we can get a real impact player at that spot, and coming away with a G in rd. 1 when there is so much depth at that position, would be a major letdown.

Cowboys need someone who can step in and instantly give us something significant.

I'm sold that Martin can step in the starting lineup and give us something imeadiately @16 @ either Guard or RT he is an upgrade from Day1.

Definitely agree he would. But at 16 in a deep draft, we can get more than a solid contributor. We can get a playmaker.

I like Martin at G, but for Dallas, Su'a-Filo might be the better player... but I'm not sure about that. Martin is a pretty impressive player and I do think he'd come in day 1 and help us, much like Frederick did last year. However, I also think Su'a-Filo would come in and start right away too, for a cheaper price.

Like many here have said, Martin's ability to play out at tackle raises his value, so he likely will be drafted higher than Su'a-Filo. For Dallas, that is not really necessary because we would just want him for guard. We might as well take the cheaper route.

At least that's my thoughts on it.

Don't trust Free as far as you can throw him. Ironically on this Board most had a lot less trust than eye.

One or two Seasons doesn't make a Career player what happens if Doug drops off in the map again.

Martin has a lot of value for this scenario, more than Su'a-Filo who "might be the better player" .. at Guard.

Since DT is one of the DEEPEST positions in the 2014 NFL Draft there are plenty to choose from.

Filo will be a solid starter for 10 yrs. Martin is a bust waiting to happen

I like Gabe Jackson. We could find him in the 2nd, and he's a lot more "nasty" than Martin.

I'm not sold on Martin either especially inthe 1st round. Yes he could be a good player eventually but nothing about the kid screams take me with the 16th pick.

A lot more quality guards we can get inthe later rounds oppose grabbing a guard inthe first. I like Gabe Jackson more than Martin btw
