Recent reports indicate that the Christine Michael era is about to begin in Dallas. Michael has been receiving all of the first team work while it appears that Darren McFadden will specifically concentrate on filling - or trying to fill - Lance Dunbar's role as the team's third down back.

Those moves, along with claiming RB Rod Smith from Seattle makes me wonder:

Where, if anywhere, does Joseph Randle now fit in?

Did he burn his last bridge with his one handed goal line gaffe and follow-up defiance?

Was the inevitable simply delayed because Lance Dunbar was hurt In that same game?

Is he safe, due to his familiarity with the offense and the team's running back by committee approach?

Does the team wait a few weeks until Smith is up to speed and then make a move?

Or does everything depend on how Randle handles his demotion and loss of carries?

Heck, maybe the Cowboys do nothing and keep him?

I don't know, but the recent moves do make me wonder.

He will probably last the rest of the season due to his experience in the system and he can play in ST coverage. I think after that he's on the short list. I don't think he fits the scheme all that well and I don't think they care for his attitude anymore.

There does appear to be a transition going on, albeit a very gradual and conservative one. For the time being, things appear to be heading toward Randle gradually returning to his former stature as a complementary back, no matter if it takes a week or even much longer for that to occur. There's no telling if or exactly how much longer he's likely to be retained, however. There's certainly no question but what he's lost ground lately. I think it's probably safe to say he's on a short leash. It probably wouldn't take much to cause the FO to consider benching him.

It's good to have legitimate competition. Randle didn't get competition through camp because McFadden missed most of camp with an injury. This is another failure from the organization by not having adequate competition at the RB position from the start of camp. It seemed like they were happy with the 3 backs they had and didn't think they could reasonably get better. I understand why we passed on RB during the draft but they still could've brought someone in via trade or free agency to compete with Randle and bring the best out of him.

Maybe Michael pressing him for carries will light a fire under Randle, either that or he will be disgruntled.

He sticks on the roster until the end of the season unless there is another judgement/off the field issue.

Agreed. Anything can and very well will happen with this guy. He's unpredictable.

I have a feeling CMike is gonna bust up the Giants. That defense is soft and this dude knows that being the bell cow in Dallas is the primo job.

Randle might simply be the new Dunbar -- speed change-of-pace and receiving back. In short, I think he'll definitely have a role and may even start (since starting means little if you're really rushing by committee).

It certainly feels that way which seems like gross mismanagement of your team. Michael hasn't shown anything and Randal got three TD's in a half this year. Seems like there should be a happy medium.

Randle is not the problem.

I think Randle attitude could be the problem that will cost him. Talent wise he is ok, not great by any means. Coaches got on him about trying to go up and over after Alt game then does it again the next week and his response was I got 6. He does not say he learned anything or he understands what is being asked of him he comes off with this me attitude and that is not going to fly with Garrett.

I think if Michael does take the starting job, it might be impossible to keep Randle around for very long. He's enough of a knucklehead to make a stink about not starting. If he shows he's willing just to go back into the reserve role he held last year, though, he's a better backup option than McFadden.

I admit that I don't fully understand the Smith signing, unless we merely see him as a better kickoff return option than Whitehead at this point. I don't see Smith being the reason we cut any of the running backs because he isn't a better option at the position.

Whitehead would go back to inactive status with the return of Butler and Bryant anyway.

You came close to my answer. Randle is a spot player, a change of pace player who will give you more in that role.

I can see the Cowboys softening up the opponent with CMike, then inserting Randle in for an explosive run.

He performed admirably, but I don't think he can take the pounding and give us an element of power as the predominant back.

Very much agree with sadams and Aven8. On one hand, you can't help but feel that Christine wants to prove to the world that he's a legit, more than capable RB, ready to make his mark on the NFL. On the other, you can't help but feel that Christine realizes that this opportunity with the Dallas Cowboys, on the biggest stage/market, with the brightest lights shining down upon him is the golden ticket to all that is good; respect, recognition, possible fame and fortune.

No doubt there is a little bit of a chip, and some dawg in this kid, ready to prove to everyone that he's much more than a talented, former second round pick out of College Station that was unceremoniously traded out of Seattle to Dallas. That was evident after his one and only carry vs. the Pats for a first down, where Christine held his arms open wide towards the Cowboys' sideline as if to say, "I told y'all! You've just got to give me shot."

Christine Michael's story begins Sunday at Met Life Stadium against the rival Giants.

Exactly why not use him like Dunbar? I honestly thought that the Cowboys were going to use him that away against the Pats and insert CM as the primary back. The closed practice yielded nothing.

depth chart should be Micheal and Randle... That's our best talent.

everyone else get in where you fit in....

Randle will be here until the end of this season... after that all bets are off.
