Is Romo a future starting QB?

I can't help but wonder if Romo really can be the starting QB for the Cowboys this year or next. No one has really seen anything from him. Ok, we have all seen the pre-season games, and Romo looked really good. But in pre-season, no one runs their full defense. The regular season is far more difficult, and Romo has taken a snap in regular season. Henson had more starting time then Romo does currently. What makes anyone believe he can really be the starter for the Cowboys?

That, my friend, is the (multi) million dollar question. And, truth be told, no one really knows yet. My guess is we WON'T know until we are way out of play-off contention.

We won't know unless Bledsoe gets hurt.

At least he fits into the mold of the present NFL rules....ie when Bledsoe cannot even move outside the hash marks and throw it away.....Bang Intentional grounding as in the 1st series last sunday....

Under those rules.....big advantage to Romo who can easily get outside the needed hash marks and get rid of the ball.....

With defenders working within the nfl rules and contact w/receivers close into the line of scrimage.....with Bledsoe they can take away the 3 step routes and get to him with blitz up the middle.....

with romo being able to move and buy time and or change the angles of the defender after bumping the recvr at line of scrimage.....putting tremendous pressure on the defence, blitz paks etc
I
I'm sure others can come up with additional situations that a mobile qb fits into present day nfl rules....face it Scoreing sells, nfl is an entertainment business in competititon w/ nba, mlba and other "entertainment"....the rules are set up to favor the offence, with Bledsoe we are giving away huge advatages

so roast me

The way things have gone in Dallas since Aikman's retirement, of course he's a future starting QB...the questions are "for how long" and "will he be a successful starting QB."

No way. He didn't go to a D1 school and get drafted in the first round. It's not possible.

You forgot to mention he has no "pedigree."

Are you saying you wouldn't feel better about our future at QB if we did have a first round draft pick who went to one of the D1 power house schools sitting in the wings waiting?

I know I would.

If we did I think there'd be snipers waiting outside Bledsoe's house right now.

- AND don't forget, he has a "noodle arm" and hasn't thrown a single pass in a "real" NFL game!

- AND he's more serious about Golf than football!

yep! I'm convinced! There is NO WAY IN HECK that Romo will ever be more than a backup, more commonly referred to as "clipboard holder".

tak! tsk!

The greatest argument of all time is the, "He shouldn't start because he's never taken a snap in a real game."

Makes me go: :omg:

lol, nobody in their right mind would actually think dallas is goig anywhere with romo at the helm..what gets on my nerves is dallas over the past few yrs had shots at schabb and brees..parcells never pulled the trigger..

could have traded for brees, and had the chance to draft schaubb but chose jacob rogers..that hurts..schaubb was picked 3 picks later by atlanta

Thanks to Drew we will never be WAY OUT of contention... he will do just enough to make it so you cant take him out..... so you wont see Romo anyway...

Why?

Is that because you are a Ryan Leaf fan? Or because you think John Unitas, a semi-pro player, was a fraud and should never have been given a chance to be an NFL quarterback? Or is it that you would rather count on cosmetics than ability?

Why is it that a small school player like Jerry Rice can develop into an NFL Hall of Fame candidate but not a small school quarterback? No reason I can think of (except prejudice).

I actually think he has a very good chance, some people say the odds are against him, but I think the odds were against him, he already beat a lot of those odds.

Small school, undrafted, etc., most in his position you are looking at the practice squad the first year, McDonald´s the next.

Players like, Delhomme, Hasselbeck, Warner, Brady, Brunnel, Green, Johnson, Bulger, etc., all beat those odds, backed up for a while, played good preseason games, except Warner who came out of nowhere, and went on to become good to great QBs.

What they have in common is this, they all went from backups to potential starters in the eyes of scouts and NFL coaches to the point that some of them were traded for high draft choices, even though they sometimes can be wrong, A.J. Feeley, they are often right, and I beleive Tony Romo is perceived that way. So the odds are not as long as some people might believe at this point in time.

By the way Warner, Brady and Delhomme all went to the Super Bowl in their first year as starters.

Alll you'll get in guess work. And since no one can be held responsible for a guess, I'll say that I think Romo can and will make it.

Someone else pointed out just how "against the odds" it was for Romo. He's overacheived since he got here. He had to have some luck and play well to even make the team. He did. Then he worked his way to a backup. Now, I have seen a young guy who has all the makings of a solid QB. Add to that how many respected NFL people have a high opinion of him, and I think he's already made it. Now he just needs his chance...
