I wonder sometimes If Tony is more like Marty Turco, at least this year. Both have the big contracts and expectations, and an aw-shucks attitude at times. Both play the most important position on their respective teams, and are probably very recognizable in that regard.

One difference is that Turco has at least gotten deep in the post season, and has a history of collegiate championship experience. Another might be that he relies a little too much on athleticism and not enough on sound technique.

Oh, wait... :D

It seems to be all of Dallas teams here lately, get so far but can't win the big one.

Michael Jordon and Dirk faced the same problem. Not enough good team players who can help in supporting roles... Michael Jordon couldn't win the big one for many years because he was just a one man show. Dirk faces the same problem, just not enough support from the team in crunch time.

The Cowboys and Romo face the same problem. A medocre offensive line that seems to crumble when the pressure is on. Philly brings the heat and the Cowboys sink. Until Aikman got Emmitt and a fantastic offensive line the Cowboys of the 90's weren't going to win Super Bowls either. Until we get an offensive line that can consistantly open lanes for the running game, we are not going to win the "Big Games". Romo is just not big enough to take the constant punishment from top defensive units.

No quarterback can win Big Games without a great offensive line and running game that controls the clock. Look at the Patriots and see the pattern.

Romo's closer to A-Rod. A little too Hollywood, a little full of himself, banging celebs, supposedly not well liked by alot of his teammates, and yet to have a positive signature performance in the big games.

Because Peyton still does not perform nearly as well in clutch games as he does in the regular season.
He got rid of the stigma because of 1 superbowl win--and his play during the playoff run for that SB was not that good.

Also, Romo can mature. It happens. He does seem to tighten up under pressure right now--but if he can get over the hump in a key game, hopefully it will take the monkey off the back.
His 2nd half of the AFCC=One of the greatest postseason performances in NFL history.

And it wasnt a stigma for his lack of clutch. It was a stigma against the Pats who owned him in back to back years and his refusal to run a balanced offense and trying to throw the ball 40 times to win. He torched KC and Denver twice over that span from 03-04. It was the Pats who had his number, and his less than spectacular performance against the Steelers, and throwing his O-lineman under the bus, brought upon more criticism that it was more than the Pats.

Being a Dallas Mavericks and die hard Cowboys fan,I am wondering if Romo is like Dirk of the Mavs. Both put up great numbers in the regular season but when you need them to step up in a BIG game it just doesn't happen. James Washington was on 105.3 the fan here in Dallas right before the Steelers game, said before the Dallas Cowboys can goto the next level Romo has to come through. He also said that Romo is getting that reputation of not stepping up when you need him. Granted it has been only 2 and a half years as out QB,so he has time to grow. I hope that I am wrong on this but so far he reminds me of Dirk. League wise the Mavericks and Dirk are called soft. Same as Romo and the Cowboys. How many times have you heard other teams say just hit them in the mouth and ball game is over? Just hope I am wrong going into next season.

Tony has only started for 2 1/2 years.....it took how many years for Peyton Mannning to get his SB ring, 8?

There is no comparison here.....how about asking if McNabb is that analogy...chokes in big games.

i think you're being unfair to Dirk.

he only has a reputation as "soft" or not being able to win the big games to the talking heads, any knowledgeable basketball fan sees a guy with heart that has put the Mavs on his back the past several years.

if romo were dirk, we'd have made the playoffs.

Dirk's playoff numbers are better than his regular season numbers and he is most definitely not soft.

I dont know. I still have in my mind last year David West giving him a light little b-slap and him just standing there do nothing. Neither did his teammates.

The Mavs have a reputation for being soft and have been for a long time, so it just fits.

I just want to reiterate to you how freakin stupid and uninformed your post is.

Steve Young was a chump who couldn't truly replace Montana... until he won the Super Bowl.

Peyton Manning was a "choker"... until he won the Super Bowl.

Eli Manning was a "bust"... until he won the Super Bowl.

Tony Romo will be a "choker"... until he wins the Super Bowl.

It's just the way it goes. Funny that in a sport in which players are SO dependent on their teammates in order to have success, we still liberally make these generalizations about individual players.

I meant in big games.

He is a good player.

Just a horrible leader and not clutch at all.

I pray that Romo is not like that ...... but its not looking good right now.

Bingo. I don't think Romo is that great a leader yet either, but he's still "young".

I wonder who won game 7 in San Antonio? Putting Romo and Dirk in one category is just stupid.

R U freakin kidding me?

- Dirks post season numbers dwarf his regular season numbers. He takes it up a notch.

- How many times did Dirk go toe to toe with KG when he was in Minny and out play him? Everytime!

- How many players have lead their teams into the finals without a true #2 superstar. Kobe had Shaq, Dwayne had Shaq, Tim had both Manu and Tony, Jordan had Pippen, Hakeem and Drexler, Bird, Mchale and the Chief, Detroit had a great TEAM with up to 4 all stars. Dirk had.... Josh?!? lmao, Jason Terry, lulz. He's taken a team with next to nothing to the finals with him averaging 26+ points 10+ rebounds a game.

You cant blame Dirk for the last few years he has delievered when needed, but the rest of the team just faltered. You cant say the same about Tony, he's never taken it up a notch in the playoffs.
