Is Roy Williams Hurt?...

...seriously, he's not played well at all the last couple weeks. I know he's not the best cover safety, but I don't believe I've ever seen him act so timid in coming up to tackle an opponent.

I'm not making excuses for him, because I've been pretty critical of him over the years, but right now he doesn't even seem like the same player as he was earlier in the year.

I wonder if there is something to the shoulder injury rumor.

how would a shoulder injury cause him to be out of position and take bad angles on most plays in which he's involved?

You go out there with a hurt shoulder and try to cover people. Now this is all speculation, but he might be hurt.

Seems as though he's shying away from hard contact a bit. I do wish he was a tad lighter though. Would help him turn in coverage.

Well all we do is play zone all of the time. It is getting old.. Zone does not work........EVER! Some fast WR ends up flowing into Roy's zone and it is all over but the crying.

He might as well be because Mike Zimmer does not put him in a position to succeed.

Roy Williams is a guy who can change games if you get creative with him.

You'd think if you take a Safety in the top 10 you'd try to do some special things with him.... Oh no not us.

We put him 30 yards back in deep zone coverage.

If Mike Zimmer is going to be here for 5 more years I say trade Roy Williams because the way we are useing him is wrong and we can find a lot of other guys to do the same thing he's doing for a lot cheaper.

Roy is a great player but our coaches refuse to get creative with him.

somewhat true, but did you ever see Roy man-man on even a FB or TE.

that doesn't work either... EVER!

Zone works when you have pressure. It starts there. If the QB has all day to throw the ball nobodies safeties are going to look good against fast WR's.

Say what? We could have used better FS's? Were any available? Could we have even made that move?

:hammer:

I agree, we refuse to use him where he's an impact player...instead Zimmer wants him to fit the scheme.

it's not about the scheme, Zimmer isn't an idiot, he just can't play Roy anywhere but back in coverage, because even though he's just average there, that's alot better than Keith Davis and Pat Watkins in coverage

An since Zimmer and BP should have known this, why exactly hasn't FS been adressed prior to the 5th round of this years draft? I'm really happy with the talent turn around here, but I just don't get that one...

How is having a "better" FS going to help Roy in coverage if he(Roy) still has to cover his half of a two deep zone? A better FS isn't going to be able to cover his guy and Roy's guy.
This is a bad scheme for Roy. The guy looks more and more like someone that just flat can't cover anyone.
Roy apologists scream all you want but he has given up way too many big plays this year. He has also been missing tackles with alarming frequency the last 2 games. I hope for the sake of his reputation he is hurt because he looks bad out there.

BTW, can anyone quickly name the safeties for Cleveland, Carolina, Tampa Bay, Cincinnati, and Baltimore? Without looking?
All those teams held NO to under 25 points and none of those teams, outside of Baltimore, have any "superstar" safeties playing for them.

Regardless if Roy is hurt or not, we are not putting him in the best position to make plays for us. Using him as a cover DB will NEVER work. He needs to play closer to the line and anyone outside of Valley Ranch who breathes air knows it. In other words, why is our coaching staff trying to put a square peg into a round hole?

the point is that a credible FS will allow Roy to play in coverage less

teams see Roy out in coverage 80% of the time, and they attack him, of course a SS is going to give up plays in coverage if he's being targeted, along w/ his FS mates, the more times you're out in coverage, the more chances you have to make a mistake

and the 5 INTs?
