Is safety the top priority right now?

Theres a lot of holes on this defense but there's no question; to me anyways that safety is the number one priority for the off season.

Heath and Byron Jones are terrible. I didn't think I would miss church and Wilcox but I do.

Wilcox took bad angles but he made plays against the run, sometimes even delivering a big hit here and there. Church was at least in position.

Byron Jones is lost out there. He can't even line up people or communicate. He's always throwing his hands up like to say " I dont know what the hell I'm doing". Heath might know what to do, he seems like he's trying ..but he just isn't good. He's not good at anything; he's not fast, not strong, not smart, doesn't cover well.. he just tries really hard. That's literally all he does.

We need real safety play asap .

Safety, LB and 1 Tech.

Take your pick.

If I were GM................................. Heath is back to dime. Woods starts at SS. In the offseason, I think about flip flopping Awuzie (although I like him at CB too) and Jones. Bring in a new DC.

Starting secondary is Lewis and Scandrick/Jones at outside CB, Scandrick/Jones at slot CB, Brown is the nickel, Woods at SS and Awuzie at FS unless I bring in a vet at S.

I would say LBer actually-- although S is next on the list. IMO-- we win the last two games or at least one of them if Lee is on the field. We had sizable leads in both contests and simply could not get enough stops on D. Both games we gave up way too many yards on the ground and our coverage at LBer was simply atrocious.

I would get on the phone and trade for a quality LBer during the bye week. Jaylon is a liability right now in both run support and coverage. IR him and see where he's at next year.

"Jones is underrated"

"We made a solid pick with Jones"

"People are actually calling Jones a bust?"

"Posters that say Byron Jones isn't a good DB don't know what they're talking about"

The clip says it all. Total breakdown by several players on one play.

We could use a few linebackers, outside of an injured 31year old Sean Lee, we don’t seem to have an NFL linebacker.

And yes, safety is an issue as well.

IMO Jones is best at corner, when he can go 1 v 1 with the TE/receiver.

Need to put Woods back there and draft a real SS for once. No projects from the FCS.

Linebacker is a close 1b. Outside of Lee, we don't have anyone worth a damn atm.
J. Smith is still a question mark long term.

Zone coverage..Byron is "reading' the TE..Ball is snapped and the TE's immediately go into pass protection..Byron creeps up 4 yards anyway. Nelson (who he never sees) runs right behind him. I dont know what I'm going to do if I have to sit through another week with this clown at safety.

Linebacker but i'll take whichever player is more talented between Safety and LB.

Anyone notice Kyle Freakin Wilbur in the lineup early on?? This team needs LB's now! Get one off the street, PS, the local HD I don't care! But we cannot expect to go another 11 games expecting health and better play. I'm sorry......

And Brown is getting burned this year and looks awful. Oscan sucks too!!! I'm not sure Heath has made one play all season outside of ST's.

Byron Jones is the opposite of terrible. He's quite good. He's been excellent against the Giants, Cardinals and the Rams. He gave up 1 pass to Bennett and Bennett should've been called for PI.

Heath has been terrible, although he wasn't the issue against the Packers.

So far this season, the people that have killed this team are:

Maliek Collins
Tyrone Crawford
Jaylon Smith
Jeff Heath

I'm always interested in getting good at safety at both positions because they are the last line of defense and if you have really good safeties at both spots, you can at least force the opposing offense to not score with ease. They may move the ball and may score some points, but it won't be easily done.

But we have nothing at RDE for the most part outside of Mayowa getting the occasional pressure. Maliek Collins isn't good either and both Collins and Crawford were the focal point of yesterday's awful performance by the defense.

However, I think it's time we get rid of Marinelli. His scheme doesn't produce turnovers and his defense has been extremely protected by the offense and it still can't get the job done.

For once doing what he's supposed to do which is backpedaling and reading the QB, he had responsibility to help on Scandrick's side, if Rodgers looked that way he would've been in position to make a play. Jordy to a b line right to Byron's zone and he was nowhere to be found.
