The wait is over. Anticipation over seeing if the wholesale changes and draft focus on defense we're going to materialize.Looks like the decisions made are paying dividends .

Our DL created havoc and disruption at the LOS with DLaw, Collins and Tapper. Jaylon Smith made major contributions in his first start at LB and our secondary certainly didn't look like their first outing together with Brown gathering an interception .

Instead of making a less than elite QB look like an All Pro we made Eli look like anything but.

The game was basically over after the Giants first drive in the 2nd half which consumed 10 minutes while only yielding a field goal , their only score of the game.

If this defense is truly as good as it looked last night the Cowboys with their already dominating offense will be feared by every opponent this year. My expectations have been elevated as I didn't see this defense coming. At least not this soon.

Just lets not get ahead of ourselves. Sure they looked very good. Just keep in mind the Giants have a BRUTAL O line. They have no running game and no OBJ. So its alot easier to pin back your ears and attack the QB knowing they cant beat u on the ground and they are without there great playmaker which alwsys keeps a defense honest. Sure give our D credit it was nice to see but lets see how it plays out. Enjoy it for sure but just be careful saying they are a good defense. ( in my opinion )

Slow your roll.

The defense played well last night but that Giants OL is a disaster. Let's get a bit more evidence here before we start penciling the Cowboys in as a dominant NFL defense.

I think they did better than well. Holding any team to 3 points and 4 of 12 on 3rd downs is impressive. Clearly the defense needs to show it week to week but I doubt many even thought this defense could play as they did last night.

We're definitely getting faster on defense every year...Byron, Jaylon, Tapper, Brown, Chido etc.
Speed can make up for a lot especially against the pass.

Not everyone can be a defensive yoda like Sean Lee. :)

Maybe this defense has simply turned the corner....and are just that good!
Perhaps, last night was the first sample of things to come.

Weren't as bad as advertised to begin with

This is the most talent the coordinator has had in Dallas

They have really good players at the first two levels of the defense and a great one in Sean Lee. Go check the DLine and LB from 2014 they've made big improvements in those areas.

They have the early makings of a good group. Lot of young guys and more will be added in the coming seasons.

If green could become the left guard permanently the team will be free to draft defense high again in the next draft or two. They are set at rb, qb, wr for a while. So if the line is set also most of the draft resources will go to defense.

Our defense in recent years has made lesser QB's and offenses look like All Pro. In the NFL you don't face great teams every week.

A performance that brings more calm and confidence than a sense of urgency or panic.

This is the most positive part of the performance. They were not doing much of anything outside of Marinelli's typical M.O.

The question was is the D back in Dallas. My answer is I need more data.
Let me ask you this question then. Are you more or less confident in our defense after last night?

Or last nights performance didn't influence your opinion at all on defense?

Given the fact this is the 1st game where the unit as a whole played together they came in as a complete unknown. Even now Dallas has to play the 1st few games without Irving and Moore on the defensive front. So yes last nights game gives me some confidence in these young guys.

Biggest caveat is the poor Giants OL. Outside of the Seahawks and perhaps Texans, no other OL looked as inept yesterday.

All in all, I was just pleased we did what we should have done to a bad OL. A good D will win those matchups. So that is a step in the right direction.

That said, I don't think it is appropriate that anyone take a lot out of it until you see some sort of trend develop.
