I had a discussion with my friend who says it's OSU And Michigan, im sure some of you watched that hbo special about it. Also you have the Yankee , Redsox rivalry.

But what do you all think , is the Cowboy's Commanders the biggest rivalry in sports history?

I'd go with OSU/Michigan. Even though that rivalry is down right now with Michigan's recent woes there's nothing better than when that rivalry is hot. Think 2006.

Rivalries are made in the playoffs

The last time these 2 teams played in the playoffs was 1983.

Still a great rivalry, but I can't say the greatest in the history of sports

I'm not a big baseball fan but I would have to say the Yankee and Redsox rivalry is the biggest in sport primarily because of how long that rivalry has taken place. As for the Cowboys vs Commanders it is a classic rivalry in its own right

It's not even the greatest rivalry for Cowboys fans, at this point in time. I think most fans would say the Giants or Eagles were a greater Cowboy rival. The Eagles have been good most of this decade, and the NYG have been far more often than either Dallas or Washington. I think the Cowboy players have some genuine dislike for the NYG for example, while very little if any of that animosity exists towards the Commanders.

Washington hasn't been a serious contender since the 80s, and Dallas only once since the mid-90s. It's hard to have a rivalry when the games often don't have a lot of real meaning other than bragging rights or draft position, and the teams aren't really relevant. Further, the Commanders have sort of been without personality for several years, a team without a real identity, while the Eagles obnoxious fans and McNabb give ample reason to hate them, and the NYG have had enough loathsome (from an nfl fan perspective) guys to fill a church choir (I'll never forget the Monday Night jumpshot game, and the sweet revenge of beating them later that year).

Just like this year's game. Dallas is a contender - or a pretender, in some fans' opinions - while the Commanders' season is essentially over. Even as someone who can recall the games of the late 70s and early 80s against the Skins, this week doesn't have a lot of special meaning for me. At least not like it used to. I think for most, it's just a divsion game against a bad team that the Cowboys probably have to win if they're going to win the division.

How about UNC-Duke in College Basketball?, Yanks- Red Sox, OU-Texas, OSU-Mich, all are good ones.

Right now, I'd say Colts/Patriots is the best NFL rivalry. Not that they have a bunch of players who particularly hate each other, but, apart from watching the Cowboys, there's few things in sports I'd rather watch than Manning vs. Brady. I believe they're 2 of the best 10 or so players of all time, and to have so many opportunities to watch those 2 duel has been the NFL's best theater the last several years.

I hope they meet again in the playoffs.

As a Boys fan born and raised in enemy territory.. DC/Silver Spring, MD...

it is ABSOLUTELY the biggest rivalry in all of sports history imo. Doesn't hold quite the same weight as it did throughout the 80's etc...

but pound for pound.. can't beat it!

Forgot that one, I think the Flyers and Pens will be a good one for years to come also.

Texas/OU>>>>Dallas/Washington and it isn't close. As much as I love this rivalry, pro rivalries are not better than most college rivalries. I do love the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry.

No problem. Not even a real basketball fan but I even watched the matchups with Boston and LA with Bird and Johnson hell of a series.

Fact that Marshall did everything he could to stop Dallas from having a franchise, George Allan the jerk he was. That makes it a rivalry.
And that stuff didn't happen in "playoffs".. This is personal.

Baseball smace ball. bleh...

I still stick with this one.

None of the above. The Yankees and Red Sox are the most hated Rivalry... but up until a few years ago Boston just got whipped from post to post.

Its the Cowboys vs. 49ers.

Series History:

The Cowboys and 49ers obviously have a long history that includes epic postseason and regular-season battles.

Overall, the 49ers lead the series 16-15-1, which includes seven playoff games.

The Cowboys are 5-2 over San Francisco in the postseason, including four meetings for the NFC Championship . . .

guess it depends on where you're from. I went to Howard University in Wash DC.. where hanging out on the yard AFTER the football game was just as important if not more than the game itself.

There's something to be said for the college b-ball environment. Just hard for me to compare college football vs. pro.. no comparison.. pro just always means more imo
