Is the Vikings Home record really that great?

I keep hearing and reading how great the Vikings are and how good they are at home. So I looked at every game and I actually watched several of them thanks to the NFL ticket

SF: 27-24 a miracle catch after being dominated by a mediocre team
GB: 30-23 GB had injuries and division opponent
BAL: 33-31 Bal kicker shanks the game winning field goal
DET: 27-10 Det seriously
SEA: 35-9 Sea is terrible
CHI: 36-10 come on
CIN: solid win by the Vikings
NYG: Giants mailed it in after the Car *** whooping

Not sure I see real impressive home wins by this Vikings team outside of GB and CIN. I also don't get the hype around the Vikings def...wow they led the league in sacks against a terrible North Division and pretty soft schedule. They went 12-4 and stunk it up against solid teams. See the PIT, AZ, BAL games...

Compare their schedule and losses/wins to that of the Cowboys...

I looked at it with an unbiased eye and Dallas had a tougher schedule and loss to quality opponents unlike 3 of the Vikings losses.

I repeat: our game to lose--all things equal (turnovers, penalties) we win--if we do not turn it over, we win

Yes, going undefeated at home is great.

Folks, the Minnesota Vikings, just like every team in the NFL don't make the Schedule.

Therefore, you can only play the teams that are scheduled.

I just saw a interview with Roy Williams and he said:

Out of 32 teams, the Vikings are the only team where when you watch film of them, the film shakes.

The above quote, which shows just how loud the Metrodome gets, along with the undefeated recored is a huge source of confidence for the Minnesota Vikings.

I think fans do the Vikings a great disservice by belittling their record at home and how they won those games.

I feel the same as the OP. The Cowboys are better than any team Minny has faced all season. That being said, the Cowboys still have to show up and execute and minimize mistakes and shut up that crowd and score points and rush the passer and play smart and.... You get the picture.

The Vikqueens are 8-0 so you have to give credit to them for defending home turf. With that being said, Dallas still is the best team to me and if they play a rather mistake free game they'll win.

The Cowboys of the last 3-4 weeks may very well be.

Recall that Minny played GB twice (they beat us), NYG (they beat us twice), AZ (still in playoffs), Raven (still in playoffs)....so it is at best an opinion that cannot be supported when we say the Cowboys are the best team Minn has played all year.

I really hate when fans do this, even Cowboy fans. Because you see it done to your team regularly. Viking fans are over there saying Saints had mailed it in, Washington sucks and Philly is one dimensional that hadnt beaten a playoff caliber team.

Facts are, Vikings are 12-4 and very good at home. Cowboys are 12-5 with momentum. Stop twisting facts.

I agree with your opinion. At the end of the day scoreboard is all that matters. They are 8-0 period.

I don't think I twisted any facts though. I was simply analyzing their home wins.

The Vikings don't make their own schedule. Like most teams, they play their share of cream puffs and juggernauts at home. However, unlike most teams, they beat them all. I can't diminish their home record.

I wasn’t trying to call you out, was talking in general what we do as fans. We try to make ourselves feel better about the game by making the other teams achievements smaller and ours bigger. Just normal stuff that i catch myself doing aswell.

Green Bay is eliminated. NYG never made the playoffs. Arizona just gave up 40+ points. The Ravens don't scare anybody. I'm not talking about weeks ago. I'm talking about right now. When Minnesota played these teams, none of them were playing lights out like the Cowboys are right now. So this is indeed the toughest test Minnesota has faced at home. The Vikings didn't make the schedule, but it just so happens that theirs wasn't as tough as some others. Like I said, the Cowboys still have to play the way they've been playing lately to ensure a victory.

I have to give it up for the Giants. They played the Vikings a helluva game.

You are crazy if you think the Ravens don't scare offensive coordinators. Their defense is playing like they did during the Super Bowl run a few years ago, and they have a great running game. Their QB sucks, but they've won before with that formula.

Whether they blew people out or not, winning all your home games is impressive. If we had played slightly better against the NYG and SD at home and gone 8-0 in our new stadium, we'd all be talking about how dominant we are at home, even if we won every one of those games by 1 point.

A win is a win is a win, no matter how hard or easy it comes. I do believe we're playing better than they are right now, and have momentum, and I think because of these things this is our game to lose, but it's not going to be a cakewalk.

Just talking about opponents with no regard to when they played or how they played. When you talk about schedules it's usually not a bad idea to look at common opponents. They have the edge there, but again, that was earlier.

I kind of agree with him that at this very moment, the Cowboys may be the best team....of course it's all in fun and totally speculative. We could be behind Zona, GB, and even Baltimore for all we know...but probably not.

The common opponents were earlier, exactly--but it still has revelence. What also was earlier, was everyone down here was ready to throw Romo under the bus and had enough of Wade Phillips. Doom and gloom and a realistic chance of missing the playoffs altogether. There was never a question all season that MN would be there. Suddenly, we're the best team in football in a matter of 4 weeks? One needs to look at the entire picture otherwise each week there's a new superbowl favorite, when in the end there is still only one winner. Fact is, there is a big difference between the fabric of a squad that runs 12-4 and unbeaten at home and one that's 11-5 and dropped 2. Yes, Minny got away with a few close wins, but they also should have won a couple more just like you can say for Dallas or any team. Winning close games is what separates good teams from the next tier. Dallas dropped 2 games at home. That remains a fact and evidence of how poorly the team can play.

A lot of people are saying here that Dallas wins if they play a perfect/no turnover game. What if Minnesota does too? Fact remains, Minnesota has been a better, and more consistent team over the course of the season. And since "any given Sunday" applies this week, it's a new season, I think you still have to consider them a heavy favorite.

Their past doesn't really matter, our past doesn't really matter, anything could happen on Sunday. All that really matters is that our team is prepared, and has the confidence that they can win, and I believe they do.
