Is there evidence other teams were going to pounce on Lawrence early? Or were they trigger happy?

true...simply can't argue that point. Just watched his tape. Sure he made plays behind the LOS but he was also handled quite a bit by bigger Tackles...he is SMALL guys. Unless they see him really filling out quickly, I simply don't see this guy justifying going this high....big reach IMO

He's almost identical to D Ware but a little faster and only a couple inches shorter. As a RE in a 4-3 he'll wreak havoc. Just pin his ears back and lettem' rip. QB's will hate this kid. Especially if there's a hog of a NT next to him.

As much as I didn't like the trade, the Max Unger situation proves what happens if you sit and wait. Because of that we make deals to get guys like Dez and Lawrence.

Yes, I'm a fan of moving up or down if there is a player you want. I wouldn't have minded a trade down to get Lawrence near the bottom of the first round after the other top DL players were gone and I don't mind the trade up.

I agree that the cost was steep, but you either pay the going rate or you miss out. Sitting back and just hoping you're going to get your guy just leaves you empty-handed.

I was all in for a trade-up for Barr for the same reason we traded up for Lawrence, so this actually cost us less and we got Martin to boot.

All the rumors state that the Falcons where interested in moving up to get Lawrence. If that was the case, let them.

This is the same nonsense as Jerry panicking to pick Quincy Carter when he got a wiff that the Raiders were interested in him also.

It's a recurring nightmare. Same story ... the guy never learns.

I think they would be more pissed if they didn't do this trade and Lawrence was picked. LOL I would be too.

If Lawrence was picked, then so be it. There were plenty of players who could start/contribute at the 46 and 78 spot. Lawrence can't play two positions at once. If he gets hurt or busts ... that's two premium positions gone.

Let's trade two firsts for Joey Galloway. Or two premium picks for Roy Williams. Or a third for James McKnight. Or two top picks for Mo Claiborne. How'd those trades work out for us???

I live in ATL & heard nothing about the Falcons wanting Lawrence.

I'm not exactly sitting on the sports radio stuff here though but they haven't mentioned it that I've heard.

I didn't love the trade, but when they are complete sold a player it's probably a good idea to get that player.

In 2009 they could have traded up for Max Unger, but didn't. They were completely sold on his ability.

Ouch!

Folks forget that.

BTW, I wonder if Dallas was trying to trade down to get Lawrence in the first round but couldn't get a taker. I'm sure the team would rather have more early picks if it could, but it doesn't always work out that way.

ummmmm no. Have you heard of the term quality over quantity? Remember when we tried to stay put and draft Max Ungar, who ended up in Seattle? I agree with what they did because he wouldn't be around when they select. Once again, quality over quantity.
