Is this the worst collection of Dallas receivers since the Gailey years?

Romo's got weapons but I'm fairly confident that this current group is a work in progress.

We've got a 1-2 tweener (Roy), a 2-3 tweener (Austin), a 3 (Crayton), and a 4 (Hurd). We need a real 2, which would help Roy immensely, and let Austin, Crayton and Hurd fight it out for 3 and 4.

I think that the double teams and bracketing TO saw will now go to Witten, so Roy and whoever is #2 will have to step it up.

Teams didn't bracket and double cover TO last season, people need to get this thought out of their heads, all that they had to do to shut down TO was line up their best CB on him in press coverage and several times that CB in himself was already running TO's routes for him. Now, they may have and probably did have a safety as protection over the top incase TO did catch the ball, but this idea that he was double covered is flat out wrong.

Let's consider just a few positives that our offensive will have going into this season that were not the case in Dec and Jan:

1. Romo will not have a cast and will be fully healed, back and hand.

2. We will have a real LG like Kosier and hopefully an in shape Holland to back him up, instead of the revolving door Proctor who caused complete disarray on an offensive line that was playing great until he enter.

3. Roy Williams will know the offense and will not be hampered by the planters faciatus that did not allow him to plant and push off of his left foot (hence, the poor routes). His hands are #1 receiver hands and he is a physical monster.

4. We will not have Romo working in an offense where; the run game isn't producing due to Proctor, he cannot get decent protection due to Proctor, he does not have to worry about getting TO Owens his 15-20 passes a game, he can throw to Witten (our real #1 receiver) whenever he wants to, he will be completely healthy, we have a capable backup in case injury does occur.

Do yourself a favor, don't let the media, the same media that bashed Owens, talk you into thinking that we are not a better team without TO Owens. I think most people in here are smart enough and have followed this team close enough to know better.

Crayton is an extremely good #3 and can be a #2 for quite a few teams in the league.

Austin is a guy with all the talent in the world and has even produced and had some nice games when given the opportunity. Some teams think he has 2nd round value.

Roy Williams is a beast. Im sorry you didn't get to see it last year when Garrett only allowed him to run 2 routes but the guy is a beast.

Plus he's more motivated than ever and already getting his body in shape and working with Romo.

As seen here:

SO JG is a moron?

Roy Williams is true #1 stuff. I cannot wait to see him with a year in the offense, healthy, and with a healthy Romo.

I'm not certain it is, not certain it isn't, buuut..

1. How many times has Roy Williams been a 1,000 yd receiver in the pros?

2. How many of the other guys would you put 1 on 1 verus TO in a receiving duel?

We're counting on Crayton being better than he ever has been, on Roy Williams finally cashing in on his vast physical potential, on no one busting and everyone putting out 111%.

Or is this simply the time we find that Romo is our own personal Duante Culpepper, worthless without that forever there outlet?

Let's not forget the receiver-sized Felix Jones, who will likely be used split out wide in situations.

And more motivated than hes ever been in his life.

That is the key.

He's gone to a Pro Bowl just off his natural abilities.

When you come to Dallas you have to be ready for every teams best shot.

A hard work ethic with that talent has no where but up to go.

In 1985, the Cowboys won the NFC East with basically Mike Renfro, Karl Powe and Leon Gonzalez at WR.

I think the combination of Williams, Austin, Crayton and Hurd will be alright, as long as there are no major injuries.

And like others have mentioned, TE factors into this. Doug Cosbie was great for that 1985 team, and now Dallas has the best TE in the game, with a promising big-play guy right behind him.

I think there are other positions to be more worried about.

I think Miles Austin will step up big this year... Dallas might bring in another veteran, but time will tell.

Did we trade Witten? :lmao2:

Nope. So we will still have division b/c him and Romo are buddy-buddy. Look for more bad games when Romo forces the ball to this guy this season.

Roy Williams is a solid #1 WR. He has already proven in Detroit that he can play the #1 role without any help (he managed to put up almost 700 yards in only 13 games, with Joey Harrington throwing him the ball and Charles Rodgers and Mike Williams as his compliments at WR).

No, Roy Williams has not yet proven that he can be an elite WR, but he is no doubt a solid #1 WR.

Crayton has also proven that he can be decent as a #2 WR for us. Posting 50 catches in 2007 being the #3 option all year, and posting 39 catches this year spliting time between being the #3 and #4 option. Let not forget, unless our #2 WR (is a legit STUD), they will be no more than the #3 option in our passing game since we have Jason Witten at TE already.

Miles Austin has shown flashes that he could possibly be a legit #2 NFL WR and is showing enough flashes that other teams are atleast considering giving up a 2nd round DP AND big money to attempt to sign him as a FA this year.

What we have at WR right now is IMHO, already an upgrade over what we had at WR at the start of last year.

exactly how many playoff appearances and wins did we achieve with the "all world" T.O.?? Answer 1 and 0 in three years. You would probably be screaming cancer if he was not traded. Let's let fa and the draft play itself out.

Wow. Romo needs to watch this with Kitna in there so he can show him what throwing to a WR looks like.

I tell you what you look for it. I look for Romo to find the open man and get the ball to them. I don't think TO made Romo, TO does not go up and fight for the ball he does not lay out for a pass. If you look at the big plays by TO most of those passes were on the money. I also think with an offseason and training camp to work with Romo that Williams will do a very good job for the Cowboys. You can sit and wallow in pity that is your choice I'm not I think this team has talented players with or without TO

Romo didn't force the ball to Witten near as much as he forced the ball to TO. Witten got the most balls thrown to him for each of the past two seasons because he was without a doubt our best receiver.

Infact, I expect Witten's catches to maybe even down DOWN slightly this year, because Romo will have a legit #1 WR that can beat press coverage consistently to get the ball to.

Isn't Miles Austin a RFA? It is still possible that he leaves the team right? So he's not a given for the 2009 season just yet.

So that leaves: Williams - Crayton - Hurd - Stanback ?

Well, unless we trade away his rights, we either re-sign him or we get a 2nd round pick when somebody else does. Do you think you can't find a decent replacement for Miles Austin in the 2nd round of the draft?

It's probably also a little silly to just assume that even with Austin back, we wouldn't add another WR in free agency or the draft anyway, after dumping last season's #1.

Romo hasn't seen anyone but Witten near as open as Williams was in most of those clips in a few years.....

We have a whole offseason to prepare and adjust for losing Owens.

I'd like to believe we'll have enough time to adjust for that.
