Is this why people hate the Cowboys?

Calling ourselves America's Team. At the end of the day do you think this is the top reason why people hate us? Fans of other teams, players, the media.

I mean there is probably a myriad of reasons. All of the super bowl success, much of the fame and glory of the nfl over 3 decades of football..., there are quite a few generations of fans that hate the cowboys.

I think what is glossed over is that the media is made up of football fans and football players/coaches... These people are just like normal fans... They hate the Cowboys, we're probably the most popular team in the nation, but we are also the most hated team in the nation.

That carries over directly to our current team and players.

The media also helps control the perception around the team and players.

They don't like Jerry, they don't like Romo. Tons of reasons for not liking Jerry, but a lot of people think Romo is this cocky hollywood type guy who came from nowhere and really doesn't care about football. They hate the fact that he is this big name despite not winning a super bowl yet. They destroy him in the media, with the hopes of destroying his career. They want him out of Dallas, so that Dallas doesn't win a super bowl. They would LOVE to see us get rid of him, and end up with a Tarvarias Jackson type ala Quincy Carter. The media has never been more scared.

Ask yourself why you hear about Cam Newton, Tim Tebow, and Jared Allen, but you don't hear about DeMarcus Ware or DeMarco Murray.

Explain why Philip Rivers was promoted to the status of elite qb and Romo is thrown under the bus. Dude leads the league in interceptions, yet he is getting a huge mulligan for the year, Romo can't even get a mulligan for two games, in which he isn't entirely responsible for.

I hear more about Sanchez and Flacco than I do Romo...

I can't wait til we win, because they won't have a choice but to talk about us. Like I said in my sig, the Cowboys are like Lord Voldermort, and NFL is scared to believe we are back. They WANT you to think that that isn't the case. It's basically the sum of all their fears.

When a season starts the media has two hopes. That we turn out like the Eagles, so they can talk all the crap about us that they can. Or two that we or just average enough that they don't even have to talk about us. Why do you think they want the Giants to win so badly, why they wanted the Commanders to win so badly in the beginning of the year, why they wanted to hail the Eagles as the dream team cometh. The Giants are the last bastion of defense until they are forced to talk about us. Forced to put us in their Top 5s and Top 10s.

They have built up EVERY team in our division this year. I hope you don't think that that's a coincidence.

Why do you think they raked Dez Bryant over the coals all year? Dude is a 2nd year receiver. Did we build him up too much too quickly? Yeah, probably, and like the title America's Team, they didn't appreciate that. Time to tear him down to earth. They don't want this kid to become the next greatest receiver... That doesn't suit their interest.

Romo had a 88.5% passing game... 3 TDs... haven't really heard about it at all this week. Murray is running better than any running back in the league... I don't hear about it. I hear Warren Sapp say he isn't sold on him... doesn't like the way he runs... :/ really...?

It is just a freaking nickname, but yes, that contributes.

Funny how they hate us for it and want it for themselves.

Hell no, keep your grubby paws off or you'll pull back a bloody stump.

It's jealously. That's all it is. The America's Team label was given to us by NFL Films. Hard to hate us for that.

We're the only team in the league that doesn't need to win to be a top story. And that fact irritates the other fan bases.

I mentioned the nickname to a friend of mine. She doesn't watch football. She said that is stupid, and America doesn't have a team. I told her sorry to disappoint you, but it's the Cowboys. She then informed me that she hated the Cowboys (remember that she doesn't watch football), because her parents and grandparents hated the Cowboys (Giants fans).

:(

They also don't like the whole, hole in the stadium, so God can watch his team.

They hate us because we're always in the news, we have such a great heritage, and have had plenty of star players. Not to mention Landry.

We went to the NFL or NFC Championship game 10 out of 13 years and had 19 st8 winning seasons.

in 2011, it's just part of sports culture that if you aren't a Cowboys fan, you hate them. You don't have to have a reason why.

It's interesting that you brought up this subject because I spoke about this to another Cowboys fan today at work.

I think the biggest reason is the "America's Team" moniker because many fans don't believe they have a right to call themselves such. Many fans believe they receive too much unmerited hype.

I honestly don't know if the team's historical success has much to do with it. The Steelers have more Super Bowl titles, but I don't know too many fans that hate them. I don't know too many fans that hate the 49ers either, even though they have the same number of Super Bowl titles as the Cowboys.

There is only one way to look at this.

Of all the fans in the NFL...50% love the Cowboys and 50% hate the Cowboys.

But, on game day 100% of the people watch our games.

Thus, America's Team.

;)

Not at all and it has nothing to do with "America's team" either. It's 100% because in a large part of the country (outside of Texas) most Cowboys fans are ignorant bandwagon jumpers that really don't know anything about the sport, but are fans because of the Superbowls. That's much less likely now than because of the 90s, so there are a lot less haters now and much more Patriots and Steelers haters.

The thing about the "Americas Team" title is that the media gave us that, because everywhere the boys played the stadium sold out? Thanks to Tex, Landry, Staubach etc.... haters will hate. The new Americas team is now the Steelers IMO...

It's the nickname, but 5 Super Bowls doesn't help Dallas' cause in this case.

It's just natural that people hate the traditionally successful franchises in sports. People hate the Yankees, the Red Sox, the Lakers, and more recently the Patriots. Part of it is jealousy and bitterness from fans of unsuccessful franchises, and part of it is annoyance at all the media coverage they receive.

Let's just see their envy...

Super Bowl XXX

Pittsburgh Steelers 0 7 0 10 - 17

Mr. Jerry Jones
Dallas Cowboys

Dear Jerry:

I wanted to write you to congratulate you on a great season and to tell you I know, competitor that you are, how you feel. I've been through much the same situation on two occasions during my twenty year Yankee career and I know how it must gnaw at you as it did at me when events beyond your control did not act in your favor. And being the former football player you were, I know how you understand this is the nature of the game. Your team was hit by a large number of injuries this year, and that, too, has a way of evening out over the years, but in my way of thinking you are still the most capable and powerful owner in the NFL because of what you have accomplished with the Cowoys and for the NFL. So, with that you carry an awful burden, but I hope you never stop being the way your are, because while you may encounter a few petty jealousies here and there in the game, you are absolutely the most important owner in the game. Unless I missed my guess, you're already at work on next year.

Good Luck,
Your friend,
(signed George)

While alot of times it can be said we don't get enough attention when we are winning, it can also be said we get too much attention when we are losing. When Rob made that comment about philly, he even said he didn't realize how much attention it would get, it would've been nothing in Cleveland.

When you have more than one team that thinks your their rival, that's when you know something is going on. I remember a guy telling me he was our main rival, I had to guess 3 times before I got it right.

There is a natural hate there, you can just about mention every other team, but the only team that almost every non-cowboy fan will react negatively to first is the Cowboys. We are the team they love to hate.

The only thing I have to say to it all the time is, 'they hate us cause they ain't us'.
