Say we go:

10-6

3-1 in December

and have a top 10 defense.

while missing the playoffs by the slimmest of margins.

Do you can Wade after the season?

No. The only way I'd get rid of WP is if we dont make the .500 mark. I'm sick of running through coaches like the rest of the league. I am aware of those who don't care for Wade but I'd like to establish some continuity.

If we have a strong finish at the end of the year, I think Jones may overlook a non-playoff season. However, if we start out strong at the beginning of the season, and then taper off late in the season as we have done before, I wouldn't make any new, large real estate investments if I were Wade Phillips.

Depends - Holmgren, Shanahan, and The Chin are sitting out there.

Each one has brought home a trophy.

Has Wade won a play-off game as yet?

So much depends on what happens in this scenario.

Did RW11 establish himself?

Did Romo eliminate most of his mistakes?

Did the young corners mature?

What did we see from bennett and Crash, Dash and Tash?

If it was merely retool the offensive line, then yes, I'm for Wade.

If it runs deeper - say Romo is still struggling with turnovers and decision making at times, then i want a stronger coach.

Kind of dancing on the answer, but the results do dictate what I'd prefer.

under those circumstances, then yes. Shanahan and Holmgren are available.

as far as in the playoffs go, it depends on how far and conditions/reasons for early exit.

my personal bet is NFC championship game would be needed to feel comfortable in the HC job.

Depends on the O vs. D performance.

If the D is top 5 but offensively we struggled, we are likely status quo with Jerry maybe testing the waters with Walrus #1 or Shanny.

If the D isn't stellar but the offensive was top 5, Wade is gone fast. He is immediately replaced by Garrett and we shop hard for a DC.

If we are good but not great on both D and O, we make a move on Walrus #1 or Shanny (I don't think Chin fits here are all).

I like Wade and pulling for him. I do think this team has to make it to the post season and then do something once we are there. I believe in giving any coach you hire 3 years then you evaluate him in terms of are we closer to our goal. This team vastly under achieved in my opinion last year they can't afford to have an under achieving season again if Wade is to keep his job.

But if we miss the playoffs, he's gone. If we lose first round, he's gone.

A deep run would make things interesting, though.

I like Holmgren or Shanahan just fine as coaches, but I don't look forward to wasting a year implementing their WCO. Nor whatever DC they bring in. We're pretty much locked in to a 34 defense or else Williams and Butler are almost guaranteed to be wasted picks.

It's kind of a shame that this feels like the first draft where we went heavy on defensive players with Wade's stamp of approval, and he most likely won't be around to coach them by the time they figure out what this NFL game is all about.

I'd clean house TBH anything short of a SB. Hell even if we win a superbowl I'd still clean house.

I am not sure what factors would be involved, but I am reasonably sure Jerry has already talked to Wade about what would be required this season at the end of last season.

Doesn't necessarily mean these are wasted picks (although if you let 3rd round picks drive your coaching choices....)

I expect Jerry's first thought if Wade is gone is to make Red the HC and recruit someone who has a similar defensive perspective like Gregg Manusky as the DC and assistant head coach.

the premise of this thread is flawed

Wade's contract is up at the end of the year

of course you could sign him to a 1-day contract extension, and can him a couple of hours after him signing it

If Wade cant get this team to the POs he's dead meat and i can't imagine Jerry not bringing in Shanny or the Walrus considering both are available and Jerry likes both guys.

semantics. Do we retain him then?

How long did it take each of them to get a trophy? I'd be willing to bet if you gave WP the tenure the chin had in Pitt he would be just as if not more successful.

Please. I know you don't like Wade but really, the guy knows football.

That's my point. If we hit the reset button every two years then we'll never get our 6th trophy. When you change coaches you more than likely have changed your philosophy and therefore must retool your personnel which pretty much insures a step backward. I'm tired of stepping backward.

I say give wade 4-5 years and then make a decision.
