Is William McClay truly a GM without a title?

didn't we throw our picks around like free candy for awhile???
When Jerry made trades he threw draft picks around like they were Holloween candy.......when teams wanted to trade somebody they had Jerry on speed dial.

I don't even know who is in the lead scout of pro personnel? Do we have one that reports to him or is he it?

Wait, isn't it Judd Garrett? Oy vey.
Technically, Judd is the Director of Pro Scouting but our Front Office is dysfunctional at best. These guys all have some sort of title but are all Jerry Jones hype-slash-yes men.

William Maclay has been nothing less than brilliant. He's the one with the college contacts that Jerry used to have. Stephen just gives it the okay
Hes so genius that we haven't even sniffed a Championship

Oh wait, we are talking about being cheap or actually winning?

So that would be a yes
If you sign 100 bottom of the barrel guys, 1 or 2 may turn out.

He was signed off Kansas City's Practice Squad and as it turns out, the reason he wasn't drafted or on their 53-man roster is the exact same reason he is now out of the league.

not entirely. He gets all the freedom to scout all the players but he only gets to voice who we should sign. He is not the guy who gets to decide any roster movement.
well somebody truly trust him.

Oh they absolutely trust him. But he can't make the decision to actually hand a contract to someone. I doubt it's his idea to be so cheap when we are trying to win. The GM would really be stephen who doles out what paramaters McClay is allowed to work with and he does an outstanding job with what he is allowed to do.

LOL.

So you found one? Should we list again all the free agents this team has signed since McClay took over his current role? It's pretty poor.

I don't know if the front office just sucks at evaluating existing NFL talent, are too cheap or afraid to give out anything more than bargain bin contracts, but there is no question that they aren't all that good at using FA to improve their club.
Didnt even have to think about it much less search.

You didn't have to think long because there really aren't that many FA success stories. And as noted, Irving wasn't exactly a success story himself.

What's it going to be then, eh?

He is a legend.

I mean, not just anyone can emerge after day one of the tampering period with an elite talent like Codey McElroy.

McClay evaluates talent. Dont be simple

Don't be stupid or naive. You don't think McClay takes into account character and potential off the field issues into account when evaluating a draft pick or free agent?

There isn't a shred of doubt that McClay and the Cowboys knew about Irving's various issues, but at that cost and their need along the DL, it was worth the risk to take a flier on him.

It didn't really work out, much like many of their recent FA moves.
