One of Sunday's announcers said that, second to Romo, Witten is the player who powers the Dallas offense.

I disagree.

I say it is

1. Romo
2. MBIII
3. T.O. (his skill and they way he makes other teams adjust their defenses)
4. Witten

Anyone think Witten is the second only to Romo?

I think T.O. has a little more power. I think he just demands so much attention from defenses.

Not saying Witten doesnt, but its T.O.

The Cowboys offense wouldn't be what it is today without Romo, TO, Witten & MBIII. In fact one media outlet (can't remember which one) has started referring to these 4 as the quadruplets or the quads (take off on our 90s triplets).

My top 5 in order: Romo, Gurode, Witten, Owens, Adams.

Well Romo is surely #1.

After that its tough to separate TO & Witten IMO.

Yeah, I love the Barbarian but I am in no way ready to put him the same class as Witten & TO.

I'm quite certain defenses would actually change their strategy if TO or Witten were to miss a game (please no!). But Barber, I don't think so.

Part of what benefits Barber, IMO, is the fact that he is never the focus of the defense. The Cowboy running game is usually the counterpunch, not the punch itself.

(and I have excluded the O-line from this discussion because I think it was intended to be about skill players)

Clearly Oliver Hoyte is what makes this offense click.

Romo in Miami.
Witten in Chicago.
TO back in SF.
Barber with the Jets.

Think about that and what the common opinions of them would be if they were on those teams. That's not to denigrate the individual, but to highlight that it's a team sport.

Great pieces working together make for a great whole and each piece is (almost) equally important.

We're pretty lucky in the RB department, because we have two good RB's, and Fasano is a good TE and Curtis seems to be a good BU, so those two positions probably wouldn't kill us if Witten went down. But I don't think Crayton and Hurd could compensate for no TO, and Brad Johnson; I like the guy, but I wouldn't want him starting at all.

What drives our passing game is the combination of Witten and T.O. Almost all of our big plays are combo routes with Witten and T.O. where the secondary has to make a decision. We're fortunate to have an elite Top 3 QB/WR/TE/O-line... throw in steady support players at WR/TE and an effective RB combo.. and it's easy to see why we're successful.

Then throw in Terry Glenn and suddenly that secondary REALLY has something to think about. I sure hope we get to see that this year.

Witten is have a great year at TE.
TO AND Garrett is a BIG reason for that.

Already at 5 TD's in 9 games. His high is 6 TD's twice.... pre TO.
His record long was 42 twice. Now he has a 53 Long.

He average 11.5 ypc. Now he averages 13.5

He could pass 1,000 yards receiving. He came close in 2004 with 980.

Like TO says... I open things up for him and he opens things up for me. You cant double team both of us.

I know Witten creates mismatches for team which helps open other areas up.

You said it so well, I don't need to repeat anything. I agree completely.

One of things that is so great about this team is you cant take away just one weapon. I would rank them like this, but as plenty of teams have found out if you take away one of Romo's weapons he will find another.

Romo
Oline
TO
Witten
JJ/Barber
Crayton/Hurd

TEs of Whitten's ability don't come along every day so when you get one and know how to use him it causes fits for opposing defenses. The loss of Whitten would be a huge for this team. It's no coincedence that the Cowboys haven't had this potent of an offense since Novacek retired.

Sorry to be a jerk, but WITTEN has been on this team for what 5 years now. ITS NOT WHITTEN it is WITTEN.
