I just can’t have an old timer back there. The job requires dedicated work. I don’t see a tv guy doing the grind. Not in Dallas. He’ll even Mike mcarthy took the bag from Jerry and coasted.

I don’t need someone who is a defensive guy bc they say curse words on the sideline . Need someone who can manage a game. Identify what’s killing uoj and stop it.

They could’ve won the cards game and if they found any way to cover Harrison without bland

The only real concern with him is he has been out of the league for quite some time now
i would want to pare him with a younger college or pro good passing game coordinator so he can learn to call plays appropriately. give them a old Dog and a new Dog approach for game planning and attacking offenses. we need to dictate to the offense what they are going to do. not be reactive to the offense. but again that requires players to execute and by my count we need several more.

Though he has been in a TV studio for quite a while. Does not mean he has forgot how to coach.
It may even have helped him some to see things from another perspective.

I am not sure how I feel if he would be the best DC to get. But he certainly would not be the worst.

Both 1st rounders have to be bpa on defense and we need a couple quality free agents as well. Just way too many holes, multiple lb, multiple secondary, and edge all needed

Very unlikely as he hasn't coached a defense in years.

Which is the stuff Jerry loves to do. Hire the old guy then pair him with Jerry’s hand picked young buck who can take over in a couple years.

I doubt Rex is the top candidate right now but I’m sure he’s in the mix.

He's been on the couch too long. Go get somebody at the top of the game CURRENTLY.

Comfort hires, guys that have been out of the league, guys with no experience, and guys who sucked at their last job just haven't worked out for us at all. We have an adequate sample size to make this conclusion.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you but the Jerry talking point of having 3 DCs in 3 years and this will be the 4th could indicate that they don’t want someone who will use this as an opportunity to springboard their career to a HC in 2027. A guy like Rex is already in his mid 60s and would probably not get any serious HC attention. It would be a hire that could create some stability with the defense for the next 2-4 years as it would likely be Ryan’s last gig.

This is defeatist thinking.

That’s not my only concern, lol. I mean that’s true but Rex Ryan wasn’t that great when he was in the league. And btw, it’s been almost a decade since he was coaching in the NFL. He last coached at Buffalo in 2016. That’s a long time ago.

Put it another way…if Rex Ryan was great, in a league starved for better defensive performance, why has he been unemployed as a DC for so long?

There isn’t any precedent that that’s a bad thing. Dick Vermiel was on the couch for 15 years and immediately won a SB. Joe Gibbs for just as long and immediately improved Washington

Rex is the most decorated Defensive mind of any of the realistic hires
Outliers don't disprove the general rule.
