I said back in the preseason, by the 5th game we'd have a pretty good idea what kind of team we've got this year. I'm even more encouraged by the fact that injuries to Romo, Dez, Scandrick, Tyron Smith, La'El Collins and others hasn't stopped the winning. In previous years injuries like these would have deep sixed our season by now.

Instead, we've had great drafting and a bevy of younger guys ready to step up and play at a high level. Last year when Romo went down there was a HUGE dropoff at QB. That hasn't happened this year, thanks to Dak Prescott.

The roster is actually deep enough right now that there's no need to rush players recovering from injuries back out there to try to save the season. Of course, the first example of that is Dak filling in for Romo, but there are many others.

For instance, Anthony Brown is playing so well at the nickel, there's no reason to rush Scandrick back out there until his hamstring is fully healed. Leary & Chaz Green played well enough respectively that there's was no urge to rush Tyron Smith or La'El Collins back out there.

And Brice Butler has made enough solid contributions in his role, with others like Terrance Williams, Cole Beasely & Jason Witten stepping up their efforts, that there's no compelling urgency to shove Dez Bryant back onto the field this weekend.

The Eagles Will The The Real Test

One thing that does stand out to me looking at the standings and the #'s above, is that the Eagles defense is indeed for real. Not only are they leading our division with only 51 points allowed in 4 games, they are leading the entire NFL. I know they had the bye week, but go ahead and scan the standings here:

http://www.nfl.com/standings

The Seahawks, who have also played just 4 games, are in 2nd place in points given up with 54. 3rd is the Vikings with only 63 pts allowed this season. Pats are 5th with 74.

A whopping 21 teams have already had their defenses give up 100+ points thus far this season. Only 11 teams are below 100 points, and the Cowboys are #10 with 91 points surrendered over 5 games.

That first game with the Eagles is shaping up to be an epic showdown.

I'm taking this season one game at a time and cherishing every moment, the way I did back in the early 90's, good times, and once you've lived them once, and gone through a dry spell, you learn to savor the flavor as a fan, if you know what I mean.
I see the Eagles game looming,, but we will be coming off the bye... perfect timing IMO, best schedule in 10 plus yrs IMO, and believe me,, Marinelli will have this defense prepared.
Actually I'm not even concerned with this D anymore,,, this D is balling right now, again, perfect timing, better than most, including myself would have expected 5 weeks ago.
Everybody..... every Body has stepped it up a notch. Marinelli is doing an outstanding job, as Cowboy fans we should be thankful every day that he is our DC.
What I'm most concerned with isn't the Eagles, its the QB controversy that's already instilled on the agenda... Stay with what working, or hand the ball back over to Romo, that could be the biggest hurdle this team either succeeds with or makes a monumental, season changing mistake with.

Of course it absolutely means something. It means this team is off to a good start and shows signs of bring a pretty darn good football team. Certainly a lot more encouraging outlook than when Romo went down against the Seahawks, at the very minimum. Momentum and confidence are huge in the NFL and the Cowboys have both.

Damn... The Eagles have only given up 51 points in 4 games...

browns and bears qb's were both knocked out during the game so it is skewed a little. I think it will come back to earth here going forward but its a really good front 7

Not really, no. Means nothing right now. Less than nothing.
No awards for winning first third of the season but still feels good
I think if the defense can play out like they did against the bengals then I think we can stay on top

Man it really is nice to look at. So nice that I searched for the standings even though I knew them already. I just wanted the satisfaction of seeing them lol.

Fair.

Yes, if they win the battle of the line of scrimmage like they did against the Bengals they'll be tough to beat. Easier said than done though. Particularly on defense.

I was a bit shocked at how effective they were Sunday. Can't imagine just having dlaw backs made that much of a difference but sure was nice to see
And much needed

The depth we've shown has been a nice change. Smith gets injured and Green steps in adequately. Collins gone for the year, but Leary's back to playing like he did in 2014. Scandrick can't get healthy, so Brown steps in and plays well. With our top receiver out, Beasley, Williams and Butler are all picking up some of the slack. Even the defensive line was able to hold it together OK without Lawrence, although I pressure certainly picked up in his return.

Then, of course, there's Dak. Going into this season with a fourth-round pick, practice squad player and Kellen Moore competing to be Romo's backup, there's no way anyone could have realistically expected the rookie to play this well. (Just think, if Moore hadn't been injured, too, he probably would have started off the season as the starter.)
