why not bring him in. We need more bodies on this d-line. Yes I know he is old (32)but he can be a reliable back up. Is he not signing because he wants starter money or a guarantee starting job? He has 7.5 sacks last year. He is 6'6 275lbs. I think we need more passrushers that can give ware and spencer a breather so they are fresher in the 4th quarter.

Why aren't we kicking his tires?

Seems to make sense but, then again, so did Clabo. Marinelli knows this guy so we should have all the info we need on him. Maybe there are issues we're not aware of here.

Okoye would be nice as he is only 25.

There is a reason he is 25, and on his 3rd team going to be 4th after whomever signs him.

Why do people want these Bears castoffs?

It's on May 10th and there are a ton of FA's left on the market. I think once TC gets closer you will see more changes to rosters.

I think alot of fans are concerned with our depth (or lack there of) on the D line.
Our present D line is not known for staying healthy in the past and they we're exploited throughout last year so it's not like we have a bunch of recent all pros in there when they are healthy.
Both sides of the line are going to be interesting to watch in the preseason.

I think we need experienced depth and he played for Marinelli in Chicago

i don't see us signing much at all in free agents. we don't have much money and we are way over the cap for next year already. we need to save money not spend money. thats why they want free to take a pay cut instead of cutting him. cutting his pay adds to our money, cutting him takes away.
we also have lee coming up for a contract followed by carter and dez.
at some point you have to play your guys and stop buying guys. and i think we are fast approaching that point. the more guys we sign from other teams the more likely we are to lose our own

I agree. IMO, this is going to be a transition year, and probably going to happen for the next 1-2yrs after this. You have dead money, and bad contracts(Ratliff), still on the team.

Me thinks the Free contract-imending release or him restructuring for Cheaper, is holding up signifcant roster changes. There will be changes and/or additions after that.

Maybe Marinelli doesn't want him. Or, it could just be that most teams want to see what they have first before bringing in someone else.

I think this has alot to do with it, lets see what we working with first before they start signing players.

If we have little money left after signing out drafts picks and whatever they do with Free why not try to get Freeney on the cheap for 1 yr, also Sedrick Ellis is still available anyone know why I haven't watched the Saints much but when I did he seemed to be a decent run stuffer?

I am thinking they would use the money that is left over from the Free situation on extending Sean Lee,& it seems they want to see what they have in the transitional players Albright/Wilber/ & Crawford/Bass/Calloway.. I am disappointed that we weren't able to address the 1 technique, as Jason Hatcher is a solid pass rusher coming in fresh on passing downs.

Well the thinking is there will be less of a learning curve because we have their DC and their D was way better than ours. But from a very knowledgeable bears fan friend of mine, he said Okoya is just a guy, and don't bother. He told me the same thing when we signed Tank Johnson and I didn't listen. Now I listen to him.
