It’s Time to Start Boycotting the NFL

Keith Olbermann, who is almost always a blowhard, directed his rage well recently when he declared: "I accuse us, all of us, executives, players, fans, reporters, of failing to draw a line in the sand when one was needed most. Any games played by Baltimore without its executives and the commissioner having been dismissed, and without Ray Rice being permanently banned by the National Football League, must be fully boycotted by all of us. If not, we become accessories after the fact."

I don't even credit him with that he's just looking for attention "on today's show MORAL OUTRAGE!".

I've been disgusted this week as well. I want Goddell gone. Olbermann's , probably right and I can't stand him. . Saying that I'm not boycotting. I guess I'm just weak. The only way this would work is if all fans boycott and they won't. It isn't worth giving up something I love just to say I took the moral high ground. The owners know this too. That's why they are so arrogant.

Its not just about taking the moral high ground its about forcing the NFL to change its culture of enabling this type of behavior.

Why? Because some players break the law? Absurd. How many players are in the NFL compared to how many are out there getting into trouble? Of course these days, we hear about every single incident unlike in the past before the day of 24/7 news and social media. But the NFL had just as many law breakers back in the day as it does now. Anyone who followed the 90s Cowboys knows that.

Olbermann is a blow hard who likes to take an extreme stance on whatever subject he is discussing.

It would only force change if everyone did it. Everyone won't do it.

If you don't want your tickets, someone else will gladly take them off your hands.
If you decide not to watch the games, you will NOT be hurting the networks or even the individual stations that carry the games.
Almost NO ONE is going to boycott the NFL - at least not in large numbers.

You have fun with that. I have no problem at all with the NFL. I don't look to the NFL to deal with society's problems. Enacting real change in society -- you know, something we can actually control and what we should be doing -- takes effort. So let's sit on the couch and blame the NFL instead.

And that thinking is why nobody will do it. Using that logic you shouldn't vote in elections, after all you are only one man. Frankly it appears you are rationalizing your behavior.

It won't, and I don't =/
That type of thinking, exists.. just how it is.

Something as big as the NFL is not going to be boycotted 'cause some guy hit his wife and people knew. I can't say I give two craps about the situation either. Worse things happen every friggan day and no one cares about them 'cause they don't have to do with an NFL star. The Ray Rice Situation is absolutely trivial compared to about 500 other things that were on the news this week, and another million things that didn't even make the news.

Yeah but my activities don't go towards the pay checks of those 500 other people.

So now we need to boycott?

It's OK when the players are getting drunk and killing people. We don't need to boycott then. But by God if one or two of them are caught beating up a woman (A disgusting act BTW) and we need to boycott the league or we're all evil people who are allowing this to go on.

Get out of here. Keith is just flat out stupid.

What about a network that hires Chris Brown to do a skit during their annual awards show? What Chris Brown did to Rihanna makes Ray Rice look like a Boy Scout. So should we boycott them too?

The NFL is not a law-enforcement agency, they are a business. I have a much bigger problem with Ray Rice doing what he did and having the charges dropped because he goes to a little counseling than I do about anything the NFL did.

Problem with your argument is the NFL is a tax-exempt organization. Now you can complain about that being wrong, and I would agree with you, but it does get special privileges from our society. The idea that they have no responsibility at all is ridiculous.

While the situation seems to get worse everyday, I don't think Rice and others should receive permanent bans. If you look at all the money he's lost, that is a significant deterrent imo. If this type of behavior continues among players, a perma ban may be something that is necessary, but imo, it isn't now.

Tax-exempt, exempt from certain anti trust laws, stadiums paid with tax payer dollars. I wholeheartedly agree that the NFL owes the public more than just entertainment, just not drawing the line where you are.
