It Finally Happened

I am glad the Wade era is gone, we were never going to win a SB under him IMO.

Now, though I like Garrett's pedigree and general approach, we need to see him as not only a leader of men but also a motivator of the lethargic.

Jason will get his 8 games and I do wish him success and if he has the "it" factor it will show up in some measurable way!

If not, simply bring in the best leader for this team that can expunge the putrid "culture" that has ailed this team the last 3 or 4 years!
This thread is about his pedigree. His Dallas Cowboys pedigree. One of our own is finally in the saddle here.

Well, if Garrett is to be the head coach next season (next season being the next season played), hopefully he is smart enough to bring in Norv Turner to run the offense. (I'm sure he will be canned by the Chargers) I think he has to replace Paul Pasqualoni as the DC also. (I have no faith in Pasqualoni, but then again, I know the Cowboys didn't exactly have a lot of choice in the matter in assigning a DC right now)

Well Hos for the sake of the Boys, we all hope you are right about this guy. Yes, the PC was a nice start.

AQ thought came to mind reading through the threads this morning about JG being a piece of history from the Cowboys of past and how JG wants to restore the traditions. This made me think how Jerry really thinks the Cowboys started in 1989 and he seems to have little use for the history prior to that.

Has nothing really to do with JG, but maybe JG can help him remember, because he sounded like he did, about the good ole days.

Elevating Garrett this year and beyond will unfortunately only perpetuate the Jerry-in-total-control era IMO. I doubt highly that Jason will be able to exert the level of authority that is essential for running a successful franchise. It will be interesting to see if he is able to hire his own coordinators next year and has the ability to bench or cut players this season.

Turner isnt getting canned, I dont know why so many of you keep thinking he will. He'll get a new special teams coach but why would they fire him Turner? He's done a good job there.

So if he is retained as the permanent coach, do you think he hires an offensive coordinator and relieves himself of playcall?

.......until we get into the Red Zone, then he'll take over...

Bring in Michael as your OC. He does not have to call plays - he does not have to make gameplans - he just has to enforce perfection in practice!

I do not believe Garrett is a yes man at all.

He will have his say and his way in many matters or he will not stay.

And how.

I'm sick of Buffalo "hand-me-downs" like Bledsoe and Phillips.

The idea that Jerry is a puppeteer here is patently false. You will never change heir minds no matter the fact that none of the former HCs here say he was a meddler, puppet master, or the guy in control of the team. Every HC here has had complete control of the roster and games. They will never accept this. It does no good to even respond to those thoughts. Those who buy that crap will never change.

That's very true.

We've never heard one coach, assistant coach or player even suggest that.

But many on these boards consider it "gospel".

Do you honestly believe that? HONESTLY?

...and what makes it "patently false". Tell me the information you have that the rest of us do not.

Because im pretty sure it doesn't take more than the casual fan to see that Jerry meddles in the daily operations of this team.

I think for many, blaming Jerry is just simple and satisfying scapegoating. It's easier to point the finger at one guy, then to look at things realistically and see that there's a multitude of problems.

... or maybe the fact that so many fans have a problem with him shows that there is some merit in the fact that he meddles and does things with this franchise that are counter productive to winning football games?

Time will tell. I don't think it was his choice to start Barber as much as he has or RW last year for that matter. He is beholden to Jerry like Barry, Chan, Dave, and Wade have been in the past..... for being given the chance to Coach initially or again in this league when no sane organization should have given them a chance. Jason did have suitors initially, but I don't think that he realistically has had any HC prospects for the last 2 seasons. Chan did get hired again as a HC after his Dallas stint, but that was by, uh Buffalo.

Nobody anywhere in the NFL believes that Parcells and Jimmy didn't have more control over the team and coaching staff than these clowns had, and it will be interesting if Jason can somehow exert that same amount of authority. He has inherited a staff largely slapped together by Jerry and faces the daunting prospect of winning with a team that has little motivation other than fear at this point. A real coach would make some personnel adjustments initially and hire his own staff in the off season, it will be interesting to see if he can get that done.

It is unbelievable that it took such humiliation and a verbal undressing by Cris Collinsworth (thanks Cris!) to get Jerry to finally pull the trigger on this. Garrett backers and Garrett haters should all be happy this happened because Garrett gets his shot prior to next year.

Ask Marty.

I personally am excited about JG as coach. I think this is a much needed kick in the butt for the Team.

It's going to show who really wants to win and who just mails it in for a paycheck.

Agreed 100%. Worst case scenario is Jason squeaking along and winning enough to convince Jerry that he can still pull the strings next year without any real change. Maybe Jerry has seen the light and will give Jason the reins.
