It Hurts Me To Say This: TRADE BARBER

The last 4 games have shown me that Choice can get it done. With Felix coming back next year, we'll have 2 talented young RBs. Add Barber to the mix and it would be a devestating running attack. Rotate 3 RB (like NY) keep everyone healthy and fresh. It would be ideal........BUT:

Barber is too valuable as trade bait when we have so many other pressing needs; ie Safety(s), OL!, LBs, etc. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE watching Barber play, but he is older, and I say go with the fresher legs. While 3 rbs would be nice, we could make do with 2 no prob.

IMO We need to seriously float Barber for a trade or to move up in the draft.

If it wasn't for that little thing called the salary it might be possible.

Anyone that has just signed a new contract is not getting traded or cut.

Only problem is that several sources have noted that Felix is pretty messed up right now and might not be the same when he comes back next year. You trade Barber and if Felix is ruined, then you are left with Choice only.

Too risky IMO.

It's not even about the cap, Yeager. The team has good depth at the position if both Felix and Barber come back healthy. Why would we want to mess that up. And the health thing is not exactly a given.

Brian Davis: Here's one thing that nobody's talking about. Felix Jones is really messed up. If you could see him hobbling around Valley Ranch with a make-shift grocery cart to prop his leg on, you'd think to yourself, "Good gosh." We have to see how Jones will return in 2009 before counting on him to do anything. Turf toe is a nasty injury.

and it hurts me to say this but i'm tired of people who want to trade anyone we have who shows value. if the point is to get these players on the team, KEEP THEM!

older? sounds like you're inventing excuses here to "get it done".
contract he just signed? won't help that thought any.

but again, this is a knee jerk move. we can spend years trying to find someone like barber and when we do, KEEP THAT PLAYER! this isn't madden and there is simply no guarantee that if we take a player with those picks for barber that/those player/s would be better than barber.

we have the potential to have the most lethal attack in the NFL next year with those 3. if anyone is expendable because of all the weapons we have, it's TO.

this is going to be one of those topics i'll have to stay out of because it simply makes no sense in the world to me to trade just because we have a player of value, the whole point of having players to begin with.

I say keep the depth. What happens when Felix or Barber or Choice goes down again next year?

You can call me knee jerk, but I'm being a realist. The reality is: How many rookie RBs came in to the league last year and made an Impact. RBs are one of the most replaceable positions on your roster because #1 it is one of the only positions a rookie can step in and play @ a high level, #2 they are usually abundant in the draft. Add to that they have a limited shelf life (exception Emmit).
We should take a page from the Patriots playbook, trade your good players BEFORE they lose value.

With Felix being injured; we should probably wait till next year...but I am just saying at least explore the possiblity.

I just hope Jerry learned the lessons from the late 90s.......Don't lock up talent in the peak of their prime for long term contracts. Trade while their value is still high.

I agree about the depth but the cap is always a consideration.

I have one question... have we created a "Trade so and so" for EVERY Cowboy player yet??

Of course and that's what I was meaning if I didn't post it correctly. Having good depth and managing the salary cap should always be taken into consideration.

I thought we were going to let him walk after we drafted Choice and Felix.

I thought we were going to let Flo walk, too.

I didn't like it, but it seemed like the right move in terms of building for the future. We re-signed both. I only regret re-signing Flozell. Barber can stay as long as he wants.

The cap issues absolutely eliminate any chance, at all, of trading guys like Barber, Romo, Owens, Williams, Newman, Ratliff, Bigg, Hamlin, and anyone else whose signed a big deal in the last year or so.

i say we don't explore it. you call it realist, i call it far from reality. not to insult you, just to illustrate how far off i am from this idea, i hope that part is clear at least.

we signed romo early, maybe, because he showed promise. now with choice having a whopping 3 games, we're ready to lose our 1 proven RB? jones hurt and maybe never the same, choice good, but only 3 games into his career really. this would be a move on hope, not experience. we "hope" we can replace barber with any old rb we draft.

while you can point to a few who've done well after being drafted, i can point to many who did not. want julius back? we have a proven player at a crucial position, leave it alone.

I have to laugh a tad on his post. He tells us that RBs are so easy to replace and I guess meaning we could just draft another or stick with the guys we have if we traded Barber.

However the logic that seems missed with that argument is, if RBs are so easy to replace, why would another team give us a decent draft pick or player for Barber when they could do so without trading their draft picks. They could just draft their own younger RB or they could just sign a FA RB.

Sorry...don't mean to sound mean to the OP, just seems like that the argument you gave defeats the reason why another team would trade with us in the first place.

Barber is one of 3 starters on offense with heart and an ounce of fight.

The last thing this team needs to do is trade away one of their biggest weapons and can turn a bad play into a good play.

We need 10 more Marion Barbers. Not 1 less.
